Shift Manager - Restaurant

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Shift Manager to oversee daily restaurant operations in a fast-paced food service environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of food preparation, POS systems, and restaurant management. This role requires a proactive approach to team supervision, customer service excellence, and operational efficiency within a casual dining or quick service setting. The Shift Manager will be instrumental in maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and hospitality while ensuring smooth shift transitions and staff development. Duties Supervise and coordinate all restaurant activities during assigned shifts, ensuring efficient workflow and exceptional customer service. Oversee food preparation, cooking, and food handling processes to meet safety and quality standards. Manage POS systems such as Aloha POS and Micros POS for order processing, cash handling, and sales reconciliation. Monitor inventory levels, assist with inventory control, and coordinate with suppliers as needed to maintain stock levels. Lead staff training initiatives including onboarding, ongoing development, and performance evaluations to foster a skilled team. Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and sanitation standards across kitchen and dining areas. Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints promptly, and promote a positive dining experience. Assist with budgeting, labor scheduling, and overall food service management to optimize operational efficiency. Support catering, banquet events, bar services, or coffee shop operations if applicable. Conduct interviewing processes for new hires and participate in staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage. Requirements Proven management experience in a restaurant environment with supervisory responsibilities; experience in casual dining or quick service restaurants is preferred. Extensive knowledge of food industry practices including food preparation, kitchen management, food safety standards, and culinary techniques. Familiarity with POS systems such as Aloha POS and Micros POS; cash handling experience required. Strong leadership skills with the ability to train and develop staff effectively. Excellent customer service skills with a focus on hospitality excellence. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail. Experience in inventory control, budgeting, and food production management is highly desirable. Previous experience in supervising teams within hospitality or hotel environments is advantageous. Strong communication skills with the ability to interview candidates and conduct staff training sessions. Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for food handling across various dining formats including casual dining, fine dining, catering, or banquet services.
