Penelope's Coffee & Baked Goods is looking for a General Manager who believes a great coffee shop is about much more than coffee. We are creating a warm, thoughtful neighborhood gathering place rooted in hospitality, craftsmanship, and the charm of our small community. We want Penelope's to be the kind of place where guests are remembered, children feel welcome, neighbors linger a little longer, and every cup and plate feels like someone cared about making it. Our General Manager will play an essential role in bringing that vision to life. We are looking for a hands-on leader who genuinely enjoys people, appreciates exceptional coffee, and understands that hospitality is found in the small details. Our General Manager will lead the day-to-day operation of Penelope's while working alongside the team on the floor. This is not a position for someone who wants to manage exclusively from an office. We are looking for someone who enjoys being behind the bar, interacting with guests, developing a team, and setting the tone for the entire shop. You should be able to recognize a beautifully extracted espresso, produce an excellent cappuccino, and teach others how to do the same. Just as importantly, you should know how to make someone feel genuinely welcome. The right person will take pride in creating an environment that feels polished but never pretentious, professional but never stiff, and consistently warm, fun, and hospitable. What You'll Do Create exceptional hospitality. Set the standard for warm, genuine, and thoughtful service. Build relationships with our regulars and become a familiar face within the community. Create an environment where every guest - from the coffee enthusiast to the family stopping in with young children - feels welcome. Empower the team to solve problems graciously and create memorable experiences. Protect the personality and culture of Penelope's as the business grows. Lead the coffee program Maintain consistently high standards for espresso, milk preparation, batch brew, cold coffee, and other beverages. Dial in espresso and make adjustments throughout the day as conditions change. Understand coffee extraction, grinder adjustment, recipe development, and proper equipment care. Train and coach baristas in both technical coffee skills and hospitality. Work closely with our roasting partner and ownership to maintain and continually improve beverage quality. Approach coffee seriously while keeping the experience approachable and enjoyable for our guests. Lead and develop the team Hire, train, coach, and develop a small, high-performing team. Lead by example and be willing to work any position when needed. Create thoughtful schedules based on business needs. Establish clear expectations while maintaining a positive and supportive workplace. Conduct ongoing training and provide constructive feedback. Identify future leaders within the team and help them grow. Foster a culture of accountability, kindness, curiosity, and pride in the work. Operate the shop Oversee opening and closing procedures and daily cafe operations. Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, food safety, and presentation. Monitor inventory and coordinate ordering for coffee, milk, food, packaging, and cafe supplies. Minimize waste while ensuring the shop is properly stocked. Maintain equipment and coordinate service or repairs when needed. Ensure all operating procedures are consistently followed. Help maintain a beautiful, welcoming environment inside and outside the cafe. Understand the business Monitor daily sales, labor, average ticket, product mix, waste, and other key operating metrics. Schedule responsibly and help maintain appropriate labor costs without compromising hospitality. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, and the guest experience. Communicate regularly with ownership regarding performance, staffing, challenges, and opportunities. Treat Penelope's as though it were your own business and take genuine ownership of its success.

Someone who notices the little things - from the quality of an espresso shot to whether a guest has been standing at the counter without being greeted. Excited about becoming part of a close-knit community rather than simply managing another cafe. Previous cafe, restaurant, or hospitality management experience is strongly preferred. Specialty coffee experience is highly valued. A successful General Manager at Penelope's will build a cafe where: The coffee is consistently excellent. $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
