Job Description

About Higgins Social Opening in Autumn 2026, Higgins Social is a neighborhood gathering place where the warmth of a classic corner bar meets the nostalgic hospitality of a traditional supper club. Serving elevated comfort food and hand-shaken cocktails in a welcoming, unhurried atmosphere, Higgins Social is a place to settle in, stay awhile, and feel like an old friend from the moment you walk through the door. About The Good Plate Hospitality Group The Good Plate Hospitality Group is committed to delivering outstanding dining experiences across our portfolio of restaurant concepts—from neighborhood favorites to destination dining. We believe in authentic hospitality, operational excellence, and developing strong teams and leaders as we continue to grow. The Opportunity The Good Plate Hospitality Group is seeking an Assistant General Manager to help lead Higgins Social through its opening and beyond. This is an opportunity to help build a new restaurant from the ground up—developing the opening team, preparing for service, establishing daily routines, and creating a welcoming culture for employees and guests. We are looking for a hands-on leader who brings organization, accountability, and a genuine commitment to hospitality. New restaurant opening experience is highly preferred, and candidates who have helped launch full-service restaurants are strongly encouraged to apply. Role Summary As Assistant General Manager, you will work closely with the General Manager to oversee daily restaurant operations, develop the team, maintain service standards, and support the restaurant's financial performance. Your initial focus will include pre-opening preparation, staff onboarding and training, operational setup, and opening-readiness activities. Once open, you will maintain an active presence on the floor, coach employees and supervisors, coordinate across departments, and help ensure that every shift runs smoothly. You will also support private dining, catering, and special events, including assisting with inquiries, bookings, and execution as needed. In the General Manager's absence, you will assume responsibility for restaurant operations and management coverage. Key Responsibilities New Restaurant Opening & Operational Readiness Support the General Manager in preparing for and successfully opening Higgins Social. Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing the opening hourly team. Help coordinate orientation, service training, tastings, mock services, and other opening-readiness activities. Assist with restaurant setup during the final stages of the build-out, including organizing service areas, supplies, smallwares, uniforms, menus, and operating materials. Help prepare and test restaurant systems, including POS, scheduling, reservations, and other operational tools. Establish consistent opening and closing procedures, shift routines, and service practices in partnership with the General Manager. Identify readiness issues and follow through with the appropriate team members to resolve them before opening. Daily Operations & Service Excellence Oversee daily front-of-house operations and coordinate closely with the kitchen, bar, and events teams. Maintain a visible presence during service, monitor guest flow and pacing, assist employees, and resolve issues in real time. Uphold company standards for hospitality, food and beverage quality, cleanliness, ambiance, and service. Build relationships with guests and address concerns promptly and professionally. Maintain consistent communication between departments to support smooth service and timely execution. Monitor facility conditions and communicate maintenance, equipment, and supply needs. Assume the General Manager's operational responsibilities in their absence. People Leadership & Development Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for front-of-house employees. Coach employees and supervisors through regular feedback, clear expectations, and consistent follow-through. Lead pre-shift meetings and training sessions to communicate priorities, service standards, menu updates, and upcoming events. Promote a respectful, inclusive workplace where teamwork, professionalism, and accountability are expected. Assist with employee concerns, performance reviews, and corrective action in partnership with the General Manager and HR. Help identify and develop employees interested in additional responsibility and future leadership opportunities. Financial Performance & Administration Assist the General Manager in meeting sales, labor, cost, and profitability goals. Monitor staffing levels and adjust floor coverage to business volume while maintaining service standards. Support scheduling, timecard review, and accurate payroll preparation in accordance with company procedures. Monitor inventory, waste, purchasing, and supply usage; identify opportunities to improve cost control. Oversee cash handling, shift reconciliations, and internal controls. Maintain accurate operational records and assist with reporting on sales, labor, guest feedback, and employee performance. Coordinate with vendors and company support teams as needed. Private Events, Catering & Business Development Support the General Manager and designated events team members in growing private dining, catering, and event business. Assist with responding to inquiries, coordinating restaurant tours, and booking private events as assigned. Communicate event details, staffing needs, timing, and guest expectations to the appropriate departments. Help oversee event setup, service, and breakdown to ensure a consistent guest experience. Support holiday promotions, special events, marketing initiatives, and local outreach. Build relationships with regular guests, neighboring businesses, and community partners. Compliance & Company Standards Maintain compliance with applicable health, safety, sanitation, liquor, labor, and employment requirements. Ensure company policies, operating procedures, and service standards are consistently communicated and followed. Monitor food safety practices, responsible alcohol service, and workplace safety throughout each shift. Document and report employee incidents, guest concerns, injuries, and operational issues according to company procedures. Work with the General Manager, HR, and company leadership to address concerns and implement solutions. Qualifications & Experience 5+ years of progressive experience in full-service restaurants or hospitality operations, including at least 1-2 years in a management or leadership role. New restaurant opening experience is highly preferred. Experience leading floor operations, coaching employees, and maintaining service standards in a full-service restaurant. Working knowledge of restaurant financial performance, including labor management, inventory, cost controls, and P&L reporting. Experience with private dining, catering, event coordination, or event sales is strongly preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
