About Farmette:
Farmette is a small farm, marketplace, bakery + cafe in New Buffalo, Michigan. Our core mission is to support sustainable food culture. We love our small business community along the shores of Lake Michigan and aim to uplift and enhance our unique area. We are an inclusive marketplace carrying local and sustainable produce, flowers, coffee, prepared foods, home goods and more. As the Bakery Manager, you'll take the lead on managing our 100% sourdough bakery program. You will play a key role in maintaining the quality and consistency of our current sourdough program, while also helping to expand our menu and production. We highly value positivity, reliability and emotional maturity. We're a bunch of foodies who love to talk about what we're eating for lunch. Responsibilities You'll collaborate with Farmette's founder, Katie Burdett, along with the entire small Farmette team. Lead our bakery program! Keep the marketplace stocked with fresh sourdough bread and focaccia in accordance with our motto "quality and consistency". Expand bakery production and menu in coordination with Farmette's founder and General Manager. This includes recipe development and costing. Train and manage a team of bakers. Keep all bakery equipment in clean and working order. Be able to work all bakery positions as needed including baking with our 3-deck Polin Bread Oven, mixing dough, shaping dough and cleaning. Fill in for any positions as needed in the case of staff sickness or emergency. Work with sustainably farmed and preferably local grains. Perform weekly inventory management, coordinate par, sourdough feeding numbers and staff schedules. Keep a clean, sanitary workspace, storage and refrigeration. Keep all recipes updated in Google Drive and printed on-site. Provide excellent internal and external customer service to our staff, customers and vendors. Other duties as assigned Requirements At least 1 year of sourdough baking experience in a commercial kitchen. Demonstrate the ability to work in a team-driven environment. We are a respectful, joyful and positive work environment. Food Manager certification for working in a commercial kitchen. Impeccable attendance. Must be a foodie! Must have a passion for sourdough and good food in general. Open to feedback with the understanding that the whole team is working towards the same goal. Keep a positive and professional attitude with co-workers, customers and vendors. Be able to handle the physical work of commercial baking. Lift and move up to 50 lbs. Reach, bend and stoop frequently. Make cleanliness and food safety a top priority. Live within a reasonable driving distance to Farmette and have access to reliable transportation.
