The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our kitchen and meal service. This role involves managing food preparation, ensuring food safety standards are met, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and coordinating all aspects of meal service from start to finish. The Kitchen Manager takes ownership of the kitchen environment to deliver consistent, home-style meals in a reliable and efficient manner. Responsibilities Review menus and follow recipes to prepare meals in larger quantities, ensuring consistency and quality according to recipes, menus and dietary guidelines. Oversee the entire meal service process, including ingredient preparation, cooking, serving, and cleanup. Make sure meals are prepared and served on time Maintain high standards of food safety management to ensure compliance with health regulations. Make sure ingredients and supplies are available and properly stored Monitor food and supplies and assist with inventory and food orders Communicate effectively with team members or volunteers to coordinate daily tasks and ensure smooth kitchen operations. Ensure the kitchen is clean, organized, and ready for the next day's service. Demonstrate dependability by showing up prepared and ready to work each day. Take pride in maintaining a tidy workspace and adhering to safety protocols. Can work independently and use good judgment Is comfortable working with older adults and the public Utilize basic math skills for following recipes, portioning ingredients, and managing inventory as needed. Is willing to learn and adapt as our program continues to improve Maintains a positive attitude, works well with others, is receptive to direction, and responds well to constructive feedback. Complete basic meal-production and food-service paperwork Communicate and work closely with the Director regarding menus, food orders, supplies, dietary needs and any kitchen concerns Work with the Area on Aging dietitian when necessary and implement required recommendations Complete occasional miscellaneous tasks to help keep the Senior Center running smoothly Experience Prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to learn is essential. Ability to follow recipes accurately and prepare food in larger quantities. Strong communication skills for managerial communication with team members. Basic math skills for ingredient measurement and inventory management. Knowledge of food safety practices and standards is highly desirable.
