Job Description

Head Chef / Kitchen Manager Shir Chai Co. - North Brunswick, NJ Shir Chai Co. is seeking an experienced and motivated Head Chef / Kitchen Manager to lead our kitchen operations. This position is responsible for overseeing daily kitchen activities, maintaining food quality standards, managing kitchen staff, controlling costs, and ensuring an efficient and organized operation. Our kitchen is already established and operating successfully. We are looking for a leader who can step in, maintain consistency, develop the team, and help elevate the overall dining experience.
Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise all back-of-house operations Manage, train, schedule, and develop kitchen staff Ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all menu items Maintain food safety, sanitation, and health department standards Monitor inventory levels and place orders as needed Control food costs, waste, and labor expenses Create prep schedules and ensure adequate production levels Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment Work closely with ownership to improve kitchen performance and operations Assist with menu development, specials, and recipe standardization Resolve operational issues and maintain smooth service during busy periods
Qualifications:
Previous experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or similar leadership role Strong leadership and team management skills Knowledge of inventory management, food costing, and kitchen operations Ability to thrive in a fast-paced restaurant environment Excellent organizational and communication skills Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
