Job Description

Goddard Youth Camp Food Service Manager The Food Service Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food service operations at a residential youth camp serving approximately 3,500 campers annually. This position leads food purchasing, inventory management, kitchen operations, and staff supervision while ensuring high standards of food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Food Service Manager also serves as a key member of the camp leadership team, contributing to overall camp operations and the delivery of an exceptional experience for campers, staff, and guests. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFood Service Operations Plan, organize, and oversee all daily kitchen and dining operations. Maintain menus that meet dietary requirements and budget goals. Manage food purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure quality products and cost-effective operations. Monitor food costs and maintain adherence to established budgets. Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Oversee food preparation, serving procedures, storage, and kitchen cleanliness. Evaluate and improve food service processes to enhance efficiency and guest satisfaction. Staff Leadership Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff. Foster a positive team culture focused on professionalism, accountability, and customer service. Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and support for staff development. Administrative & Operational Support Assist with overall camp operations as a member of the leadership team. Coordinate with camp attendees to accommodate special dietary needs and camp schedules. Maintain accurate records related to food purchases, inventory, budgets, and regulatory compliance. Participate in implementing operational improvements and special projects. Safety & Risk Management Maintain a safe working environment for staff and campers. Enforce food safety standards and workplace safety procedures. Assist with emergency preparedness, risk management, and camp-wide safety initiatives as needed. QualificationsRequired Experience managing food service operations, commercial kitchens, or institutional dining programs. Experience supervising and training staff. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and inventory management. Strong organizational, budgeting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Preferred Experience in youth camps, schools, hospitality, recreation, or similar residential environments. Manager-level food safety certification preferred (training and certification assistance may be available). Experience with budget management, vendor negotiations, and cost control. Knowledge of special dietary accommodations and large-scale meal service. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in kitchen environments with varying temperatures. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and seasonal schedules as required. Staff retention, training, and performance. Operational efficiency and inventory management. Successful support of camp programs and special events.
Compensation Hours:
8am - 7pm with some variation based on schedule. Starting at $20/hr with strong potential for growth and increased responsibility/compensation for the right candidate. Requirements All employees must pass a background check and drug test, without exception.
