Organization Description:
Kitsap Fresh is a producer-owned cooperative that operates an online marketplace featuring locally sourced, transparently identified products. The cooperative is dedicated to supporting and advancing farmers and food producers across the Kitsap region. We provide comprehensive marketing and distribution services for approximately 60 member producers, including 40 farms located in Kitsap and neighboring counties. Kitsap Fresh is currently in a dynamic growth phase, focused on developing its emerging wholesale market while continuing to strengthen and expand its established retail operations.
Position Summary:
This role is responsible for overseeing the core management functions of all Kitsap Fresh activities. Key responsibilities include supervising staff and volunteers, communicating and strategizing with the Board of Directors, and ensuring effective operational oversight. The position works closely with the Board of Directors to support the long-term success of Kitsap Fresh. To optimize communication and operations, this leader will be required to work on-site on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They will participate in cross-training so they can assist with other tasks when the need arises. We are seeking a leader with a strong commitment to local food systems and the ability to support and inspire staff through a positive and collaborative approach. This individual will be responsible for providing strategic clarity on how Kitsap Fresh can enhance operational efficiency, sustain and increase retail sales, and expand our wholesale program. The ideal candidate is a versatile leader who can balance attention to operational detail with a strategic, forward-thinking mindset. This individual will serve as a critical liaison between Kitsap Fresh staff and the Board, ensuring clear and effective communication across the organization. The General Manager will also be responsible for external communications, as well as preparing and presenting regular reports on organizational performance to the Board.
Principal Duties:
Leadership & Operations Oversee organizational strategy, planning, and performance Serve as the liaison between staff and the Board of Directors Coordinate Board meetings and major organizational events Manage finances, reporting, and compliance requirements Ensure systems and processes support efficiency and accountability Lead annual staff reviews, budgeting, and goal-setting People & Partnerships Recruit, train, and support staff and volunteers Maintain a positive, collaborative work culture Build and sustain relationships with producers, partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders Coordinate producer outreach, engagement, and communications Collaborate on grants, crowdfunding, and partnership initiatives Sales & Communications Oversee marketing, sales, and business development activities Manage wholesale, retail, and customer service operations Support the onboarding of new products and producers Lead external communications, social media, and community outreach Create and distribute newsletters and promotional materials Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience in organizational, operational, or program management, preferably in a nonprofit, cooperative, food systems, agriculture, or related environment Strong strategic planning skills with the ability to translate organizational goals into actionable plans Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management Experience managing operations, budgets, financial tracking, and compliance-related responsibilities Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment Proficiency with standard business software, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), and basic digital communication tools Experience in sales, marketing, or customer-facing service environments Ability to adapt to changing priorities and a dynamic work schedule Ability to perform physical tasks as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds Valid driver's license, 10 years driving experience, clean driving record, and access to reliable personal transportation Minimum of an Associate's degree (A.A. or A.S.), or equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications Experience in business development and revenue growth strategies Familiarity with or experience working in local or regional food systems, food hubs, or agricultural supply chains Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors or similar governance body Experience managing marketing and communications, including newsletters, social media, and public-facing messaging Basic familiarity with graphic design tools or experience creating marketing materials (e.g., flyers, brochures, digital content) Experience coordinating customer service systems and resolving operational issues Passion for local food systems, sustainable agriculture, and community economic development Compensation and Work Environment This is a part-time position with an hourly pay range of $25-$28, commensurate with experience. The role follows a hybrid work model, incorporating time at the warehouse, in the communities we serve, and remote work. Evening or weekend hours and periodic local or regional travel will be required. Approved work-related travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with organizational policy.
