Job Description
Hill & Bach Cellars is looking for a hands-on, organized, and hospitality-minded Chef / Kitchen Manager to lead our kitchen operations as we prepare to open our new winery experience in Boerne. The Chef / Kitchen Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including food preparation, menu execution, inventory, and maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen. Maintaining kitchen compliance and meeting all health and food safety requirements will be a top priority of this position. Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the kitchen
- Plan and organize daily and weekly food preparation
- Prepare tapas, light plates, and other menu items with consistency and attention to quality
- Maintain kitchen compliance as a top priority and ensure all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements are consistently met
- Maintain required food safety documentation, procedures, and standards
- Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and properly stocked
- Manage kitchen inventory and communicate ordering and supply needs
- Monitor food costs, portioning, and waste
- Ensure the kitchen is properly prepared for regular service, private events, and special programming
- Take ownership of executing and maintaining our established menu
- Keep the menu fresh through thoughtful seasonal updates and occasional specials
- Recommend menu changes based on seasonality, ingredient availability, guest feedback, and food costs
- Work collaboratively with the Hill & Bach hospitality and events teams
- Assist with private events, wine club events, and other special programming
- Support the guest experience when needed, including pouring wine and assisting guests Qualifications
- Valid Manager Food Handler Card required
- Previous professional kitchen experience in a chef, sous chef, kitchen manager, or similar role
- Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements
- Experience with food preparation, inventory, ordering, and cost control
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to independently manage kitchen operations and take ownership of responsibilities
- Appreciation for seasonal ingredients and approachable food
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable interacting with guests in a hospitality environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on kitchen prep needs, service hours, weekends, and special events
