POSITION SUMMARY
The General Manager (GM) of our Waterbury location is responsible for the overall success of the store—leading people, driving financial performance, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience. This is a hands-on leadership role in a high-volume, fast-paced retail food environment. The GM sets the tone for the store, builds and develops a strong team, and ensures alignment with WFM's mission, values, and operational standards. This role requires flexibility, strong decision-making, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and lead by example.
THE KEY ROLES LMA
Leads, Manages, and Holds the Team Accountable Oversees all Waterbury Sales and Operations Responsible for Physical Plant Maintenance P and L for Waterbury Waterbury Community Ambassador Connects with Flagship Location Culture and Processes Drives Exceptional Guest Experience Ensures every guest interaction reflects WFM's service standards Actively works the floor, supports departments, and engages with customers Leads by example in hospitality, responsiveness, and attention to detail Owns Store Operations & Merchandising Excellence Oversees all store functions including grocery, produce, deli, and prepared foods Ensures strong merchandising, seasonal displays, and product quality Partners with buyers and department leaders to maintain inventory and flow Maintains high standards for cleanliness, organization, and food safety Delivers Financial Performance Owns the store P&L and drives profitability Understands and manages key metrics: sales, margin, labor, and shrink Operates within WFM's openbook management approach Makes informed decisions based on financial data and trends Acts as a Community & Culture Ambassador Builds strong connections within the Waterbury, Stowe, and surrounding communities Represents WFM's brand, culture, and values both internally and externally Partners with Woodstock leadership and participates in company initiatives Helps grow and evolve the Waterbury location as part of the broader WFM vision
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage daily store operations including opening/closing and weekend coverage Oversee scheduling, staffing, and workflow across departments Order and manage inventory across multiple categories Support prepared foods operations and kitchen coordination Maintain sanitation, food safety, and regulatory compliance standards Ensure operational readiness at all times—including handling unexpected issues Travel to Woodstock as needed for training, collaboration, and support
QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership & Culture Humility, empathy, and strong interpersonal awareness Ability to lead through collaboration and influence Calm, steady presence in a fastpaced, everchanging environment Retail & Food Experience 45+ years in a retail food environment (management experience preferred) Experience in highvolume retail and/or food service operations Familiarity with merchandising, inventory, and customerfacing environments Business & Operational Skills Strong understanding of financials (P&L, margins, pricing) Excellent time management and organizational skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously Comfort with systems and technology (Excel, Word, POS/inventory systems) Work Style Handson and willing to do any task needed ("no job too small") High energy with strong followthrough Positive attitude and solutionsoriented mindset Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
SCHEDULE & COMMITMENT
Fulltime position (approximately 45+ hours/week) Requires flexibility including evenings, weekends, and holidays At least one weekend day required
EDUCATION
