This position combines hands-on food preparation and kitchen management with administrative oversight and ministry leadership. The director is responsible for supervising kitchen staff and coordinating volunteer teams while ensuring excellence in food service, stewardship of resources, and support of the church's mission. Mission Focus This position plays a vital role in supporting the church's ministries through hospitality, fellowship, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in food service operations while helping create meaningful opportunities for connection and ministry through shared meals. Essential Responsibilities Event Meal Planning & Execution
- Plan, prepare, and oversee food service for church lunches, Sunday School events, staff luncheons, and special ministry gatherings.
- Coordinate all aspects of meal preparation and service to ensure high-quality experiences for church members and guests. Financial & Administrative Management
- Track and itemize catering and meal expenses by ministry or department.
- Prepare invoices and maintain accurate financial records for internal chargebacks and event-related expenses.
- Utilize bookkeeping and expense-tracking systems effectively. Culinary Leadership
- Develop menus and execute food service for weekly church meals, including Wednesday night suppers.
- Lead food preparation for funerals, conferences, holiday celebrations, and other large-scale events.
- Ensure meals are prepared efficiently, safely, and to a high standard of quality. Operations & Budget Oversight
- Manage the food services budget and monitor expenditures.
- Oversee vendor relationships and purchasing processes.
- Maintain inventory levels and implement cost-control measures to maximize stewardship of resources. Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise kitchen assistants and volunteers.
- Foster a welcoming, service-oriented, and ministry-focused environment.
- Provide leadership that motivates and equips volunteers to serve effectively. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Alabama health department regulations, food safety requirements, and sanitation standards.
- Maintain commercial kitchen equipment and promote safe operating procedures.
- Monitor cleanliness and operational readiness of kitchen facilities.
- Current ServSafe Manager Certification required or able to obtain. Qualifications Required Experience
- Minimum of three to five years of commercial kitchen management experience in a restaurant, catering, school, church, or similar food service environment. Administrative Skills
- Experience with invoicing, and expense-tracking systems.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities. Leadership Competencies

- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and support volunteers in a ministry setting.

- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work safely in a high-temperature commercial kitchen environment.
- May occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions including periods of extreme cold or extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild. Schedule Requirements
- Availability for Wednesday evenings, occasional weekend church events and throughout the week.
