Job Summary The Janitorial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily custodial operations, supervising cleaning staff, ensuring quality standards are met, and maintaining excellent customer relationships. This hands-on leadership role requires active participation in facility cleaning and maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and safety regulations. The Janitorial Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for employees and customers regarding operational issues, quality concerns, and service delivery. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership and Supervision Supervise and direct janitorial staff to ensure proper staffing levels and work area coverage. Delegate daily assignments and monitor completion of scheduled work. Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching, guidance, and corrective action when necessary. Lead by example through active participation in cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed. Motivate employees and foster a positive, productive work environment. Assist with employee onboarding and job-specific training. Quality Assurance and Operations Inspect assigned work areas to ensure quality standards and customer expectations are consistently met. Perform hands-on custodial duties when operational needs require, including: Dust mopping and sweeping Floor stripping and refinishing Carpet scrubbing and extraction Restroom cleaning and sanitation Window washing General janitorial services Identify operational issues and implement corrective actions to improve service delivery. Monitor work performance and ensure compliance with company procedures and customer specifications. Report operational concerns, discrepancies, and service issues to the Operations Manager or Operations Coordinator. Customer Service and Client Relations Serve as a primary point of contact for customer concerns and service requests. Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries and issues. Communicate new, revised, or changing work orders to management and staff. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers. Continuously seek opportunities to improve service quality and exceed customer expectations. Inventory and Equipment Management Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing of supplies and equipment. Track and evaluate supply usage to ensure cost-effective operations. Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs. Ensure proper labeling, dilution, storage, and handling of cleaning products. Maintain compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and OSHA regulations regarding chemical safety. Training and Communication Conduct on-the-job training for new and existing employees. Participate in company and customer-sponsored training programs. Effectively communicate operational updates, policy changes, and safety information to employees. Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with all safety procedures. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate records related to staffing, inspections, inventory, and operational activities. Assist management with reporting and operational documentation as required. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, customer regulations, and applicable laws. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills. Knowledge of janitorial cleaning methods, floor care procedures, and facility maintenance practices. Knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in commercial cleaning operations. Excellent internal and external customer service skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, and customers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word. Working knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Calendar. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Education and ExperienceRequired Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory, janitorial, facilities, or related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience in commercial janitorial or facilities management environments preferred. Requirements Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass criminal background screening requirements. Ability to work flexible schedules as operational needs require. Work Environment Fast-paced work environment with changing priorities and customer demands. Combination of office, commercial facility, and operational work environments. Moderate noise levels are typical. Regular exposure to dust, odors, oils, cleaning chemicals, fumes, and equipment noise. Safety glasses and other personal protective equipment may be required during certain tasks. High sense of urgency and responsiveness required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, balance, and reach for extended periods. Ability to perform inspections and oversee operations throughout large facilities. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds of equipment, supplies, and materials. Ability to perform hands-on janitorial and floor care tasks when necessary. Ability to use hands and arms for operating equipment and performing cleaning activities.
