Job Description

Filling Station BBQ is looking for the right person to join our team in a fast track, transitional role toward becoming a Shift Lead. This is not a "walk in and be handed keys on day one" position. This is for someone who wants to learn the business from the ground up, earn trust, understand our standards, and grow into leadership the right way. We are looking for someone with common sense, energy, ownership, and the kind of work ethic that makes a shift better because they were there. Someone who notices what needs to be done without being asked 14 times. Someone who can look around, jump in, solve problems, and leave things better than they found them. We are a family owned and operated BBQ restaurant in downtown Lee's Summit. We care deeply about good food, strong hospitality, community, and building a team that people are proud to be part of. We are looking for someone who can lead by example, stay calm under pressure, and help create a shift that runs smoothly for both guests and the team. Our Values At Filling Station BBQ, our values matter. We are looking for someone who can represent them every shift.
Authenticity:
We are real people serving real food. We want team members who are honest, dependable, and genuine.
Community:
We believe in supporting our town, our guests, and each other. The way we treat people matters.
Hospitality:
Great BBQ brings people in, but great service brings them back.
Excellence:
We do not expect perfection, but we do expect care, consistency, and pride in the work.
Innovation:
We are growing, changing, and always trying to improve. We want someone who can grow with us.
Integrity:
Do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Especially when no one is watching. How This Role Starts You will begin by learning every position in the restaurant. That means front counter, food running, expo, basic kitchen flow, prep standards, cleaning expectations, guest service, closing procedures, and how a successful shift should feel from start to finish. As you prove consistency, communication, dependability, common sense, and leadership, you will begin taking on more responsibility. That may include helping direct team members, supporting closing shifts, handling guest issues, checking food quality, keeping the team on task, and learning the operational side of the business. The goal is to transition the right candidate into a Shift Lead role once they have earned the trust of ownership and the team. Who Should Apply You should apply if you are dependable, hardworking, coachable, and ready to grow. You should also apply if you are the type of person who sees a mess and cleans it, sees a guest waiting and helps them, sees a teammate falling behind and jumps in, or sees a problem and starts looking for a solution. We need people with gusto. People who move with purpose. People who care about the details. People who take pride in their work even when no one is standing over them. This could be a great fit for someone with restaurant experience who wants a real leadership opportunity, or someone who has led in another fast paced environment and wants to learn our business from the ground up. You do not need to know BBQ before you start. You do need to care, pay attention, move with purpose, and treat people well. What You Will Be Doing Learning and working all restaurant positions Supporting the team during busy service Helping maintain food quality and presentation standards Providing excellent guest service Keeping the restaurant clean, organized, and shift ready Learning opening and closing procedures Communicating clearly with ownership and team members Helping coach employees once you are ready for leadership responsibility Staying calm and professional during rushes, mistakes, and high pressure moments Holding yourself and others accountable in a respectful way Noticing what needs to be done and taking initiative Leaving each shift, station, and situation better than you found it Schedule This position will require nights and weekends. Our busiest times are evenings, weekends, events, and seasonal rushes. If you are not available during those times, this will not be the right fit. The Good Parts You will have a real opportunity to grow into leadership. You will work with owners who are involved and invested in the team. You will learn the full operation, not just one station. You will be part of a growing local business with a strong community presence. You will have the chance to make an actual impact on the team and guest experience. You will not be bored. BBQ keeps things interesting. The Hard Parts This job can be fast paced and physically demanding. You will be on your feet for long periods of time. You will work nights and weekends. You will need to handle pressure, mistakes, and guest concerns professionally. You will be expected to learn all positions, not just the ones you prefer. Leadership here is earned through consistency, not just experience or confidence. There will be busy shifts where everyone has to jump in wherever needed. If you need constant direction, avoid feedback, or only do the bare minimum, this is probably not the role for you. What We Are Looking For Restaurant experience is preferred, but the right attitude matters most. Strong communication skills Dependability and punctuality Common sense Gusto and positive energy Ability to stay calm under pressure Willingness to learn every position Ability to lead by example Someone who notices what needs to be done Someone who takes ownership without being asked Comfortable giving and receiving feedback Strong work ethic Availability for nights and weekends Interest in growing into a leadership role Pay Pay will be based on experience, availability, and leadership potential. This role is designed as a path into a Shift Lead position, with growth opportunities for the right person. Apply If This Sounds Like You If you want a title without doing the work first, this probably is not the right fit. If you want to learn, work hard, earn trust, bring energy, use common sense, and grow into leadership with a local business that is building something special, we would love to meet you.
