Overview:
The Shift Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the Islanders Ice Center Facilities. This position is responsible for overseeing daily facility activities, supervising staff, and maintaining a high standard of customer service and facility upkeep during assigned shifts. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and mentor facility staff members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Contribute significantly to staff performance management, including recommendations for hiring, training, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Manage overall facility operations during assigned shifts, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of all areas.
- Provide exceptional customer service and foster a positive experience for all facility users and guests.
- Prioritize and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for all patrons and staff.
- Complete and accurately document all accident and incident reports.
- Operate ice resurfacing equipment to maintain optimal ice quality (if applicable to specific rink operations).
- Operate various maintenance equipment to ensure superior playing surface quality across all facility areas.
- Oversee the efficient operation of the point-of-sale (POS) system during shifts.
- Perform daily POS system reconciliation and cash handling procedures.
- Provide oversight and support to coaching staff, referees, and scorekeepers in the absence of the Director.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in facility operations or a similar supervisory role, preferably within a sports or entertainment venue.
- Demonstrated strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively train, motivate, and manage a team.
- Proficiency in operating facility-specific equipment, including ice resurfacers and other maintenance tools.
- Basic computer proficiency, including experience with point-of-sale systems.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to respond effectively to incidents and emergencies.
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and move for extended periods during a shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures, including cold rink environments.
- Manual dexterity and physical stamina required for operating equipment and performing maintenance tasks.
