A Restaurant or Food Service Supervisor supervises food preparation and staff for a restaurant or dining hall. Manages budget for food supplies, equipment and staff; hires and trains staff; monitors food safety procedures. May plan menus or work with chefs or dieticians to plan menus. Works in a school, hospital, nursing home or other institution.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Food Service Director to lead and oversee all dietary operations within our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality meal service, regulatory compliance, and effective management of food service staff, while supporting the nutritional needs and well-being of our residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct and manage all food and nutrition services operations in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations Ensure compliance with New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) standards for skilled nursing facilities Plan, implement, and evaluate menus that meet residents' dietary and nutritional needs Oversee food procurement, inventory, preparation, and service Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and infection control Supervise, train, and evaluate dietary staff Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including nursing and clinical staff Manage departmental budgets and control costs effectively Ensure resident satisfaction and address concerns related to food service Disaster stock management- oversight of emergency food & water reserve, strict inventory, calculations, therapeutic diet adaptation and rotation of stock auditing. Minimum Qualifications (must meet at least one of the following): Certified Dietary Manager (CDM); OR Certified Food Service Manager; OR Holds a similar national certification in food service management and safety from a recognized certifying body; OR Associate's degree or higher in Food Service Management, Hospitality, or a related field (with coursework in food service or restaurant management) from an accredited institution; OR At least two (2) years of experience as a Food Service Director in a nursing facility setting AND completion (by October 1, 2023) of a course of study in food safety and management covering topics such as foodborne illness, sanitation procedures, and food purchasing/receiving
Additional Requirements:
Must meet all New York State requirements for food service managers or dietary managers Strong knowledge of state & federal (CMS) long term care food and nutrition regulation. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills Current Servsafe certification preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
Dietetic technician registered (DTR), or Nutrition and dietetic technician registered (NDTR) Experience in a skilled nursing facility or long-term care setting Strong background in clinical nutrition collaboration Proven ability in clinical chart documentation, electronic meal tracking systems, menu planning and therapeutic diet modifications
