Are you looking for a fun place to work? Look no further! Come join our food service team at the Virginia Zoo! We are looking for Seasonal Food Service Shift Lead to be our point person each day and oversee and assist a team of staff members. This may include assisting the cook staff or jumping on a register at our point-of-sale station. Help make our guests' experience a great one by being a team leader that sets the example for our staff! This position does require weekend availability, but the hours are great! The Zoo is open from 9:30am - 4:00 PM ; 7 days a week including most holidays. This is a non-exempt, seasonal part time position. Reporting to the Food Services Manager. Up to 32 Hours per week. This seasonal position will operates from March to October.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Customer Service:
Deliver the highest quality customer service to zoo guests by monitoring, evaluating, and communicating any deficiencies to one of our Food Service Managers. While guests are in our restaurant, or visiting our various concession stands, the Shift Leader should provide direction and answer questions for guests, all while representing the Zoo and upholding our standards.
Cash Handling:
The Shift leader must be able to uphold our established financial controls. The Shift leader may need to be a back up to the Associate and must need to know how to make change, take credit card payments, and operation our POS system. The Shift leader may be responsible for reviewing the Associate's drawer deposit at the end of shift.
General Operations:
Responsible for open and closing a shift ( Zoo operating hours are 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM ) Provide support for the success of Virginia Zoo after hour events. May assist with receiving food deliveries and putting food away. Assist with restocking storage and merchandising units Must be up to date and familiar with equipment operations and troubleshooting issues May need to communicate low inventory levels Responsible for daily food waste records and staff food logs Must enforce company handbook and Food Service SOPs May need to lift and move 20 lbs. May need to assist line cooks during busiest hours of the day
Food Handling Standards:
Assist in maintaining clean and orderly food service areas, which includes cook line, restaurant lobby area where guests order, and our dining room. Understand the importance of properly rotating food and beverages. Complete TIPS training as we are licensed to sell beer and wine onsite.
Requirements:
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High school diploma or GED is acceptable, with proper food service training.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 1-2 years experience as a Shift Leader in a restaurant preferred Good problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills. Good math skills as position does work with cash. Excellent communication skills, as you will work as a team and closely with guests Ability to arrive to work on time and maintain a positive attendance record and to work a flexible schedule, including weekends. Multi-tasking and able to handle peak high-volume times is critical. Must possess and maintain a Food Handlers Card.
