Job Description

Overview:

The Schoenstatt Retreat Center is run by Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary, a Catholic community of consecrated women at the service of the Schoenstatt mission. We are seeking a faith-filled, service-minded Kitchen Manager to oversee the safe and efficient operation of the kitchen at our welcoming Retreat Center.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the safe and efficient daily operation of the kitchen. Manage and train kitchen staff and volunteers according to food service industry standards. Plan menus and ensure that safe, healthy, and appealing meals are served on time and presented in a thoughtful and attractive manner. Ensure that kitchen areas are cleaned regularly, including countertops, serving areas, cabinets, cupboards, floors, walk-in refrigerator, and freezer. Order and purchase food, supplies, and other items necessary for the smooth operation of the kitchen and dining area. Maintain appropriate inventory levels and use food and supplies responsibly to reduce waste. Support smooth meal service for retreatants, guests, Sisters, staff, and visitors. Communicate effectively with leadership regarding kitchen needs, menu planning, staffing, supplies, repairs, and operational concerns.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in kitchen management, food service supervision, catering, hospitality, or a related culinary role preferred. Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, proper food storage, and kitchen cleaning practices. Ability to plan balanced menus and prepare meals for groups of varying sizes. Ability to supervise, train, and support cooks and volunteers in a respectful and professional manner. Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds. Valid driver's license required for shopping trips, subject to employer auto insurance approval. ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification preferred. Understanding of and compatibility with the mission, values, and vision of the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary; active membership in a Roman Catholic community is highly desirable.

Work Environment:

This role involves constant standing and walking, frequent bending, kneeling, and squatting, use of sharp instruments and kitchen equipment, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.
