Job Description

Colorado River Expeditions is hiring entry level river guides for the Upper Colorado River. This is a seasonal position with return opportunities for guides who show strong performance, professionalism, and a good fit with the team. This role is open to true beginners. No prior guide experience is required. We are looking for people who want to work hard, learn fast, take safety seriously, and be part of a team that delivers a high-quality guest experience on the river. A select group of applicants will be invited to attend our guide school at no cost. Participants who successfully complete training will earn their Colorado river guide license, Swiftwater Rescue certification, and have the opportunity to be considered for a guiding position with Colorado River Expeditions. What You'll Do Entry level guides are trained to support and lead commercial river trips on the Upper Colorado River. Responsibilities may include rowing oar rigs, directing and assisting guest paddling when needed, providing safety briefings, helping guests with gear and river procedures, loading and unloading boats and trailers, rigging and de-rigging equipment, cleaning and organizing gear, assisting with meals and trip logistics, and helping with shuttle operations. This is a guest-facing role. Strong customer service, leadership, clear communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure all matter here. What We're Looking For You must be at least 18 years old and able to swim confidently. CPR and First Aid are required. A valid driver's license is preferred. Applicants who become licensed shuttle drivers through our company may be eligible for increased pay. This position is a good fit for someone who is dependable, coachable, tough, outgoing, safety-minded, and comfortable working closely with both coworkers and the public. Outdoor experience helps, but attitude, work ethic, and the ability to learn are more important than a long resume. Physical and Schedule Requirements This is real outdoor work. Guides should be prepared for early mornings, long days, changing weather, cold water, wet conditions, uneven riverbanks, and physically demanding tasks. The job includes lifting and carrying gear, loading boats and trailers, standing for extended periods, and staying effective through long workdays. Weekend and holiday availability is expected during the season. Schedules can change based on water, weather, guest demand, and operational needs. Guide School Our guide school is free for a select few applicants. It is designed for people who are serious about learning the job and earning the certifications needed to work in the industry. Successful completion gives you a shot at joining Colorado River Expeditions for the season. About Colorado River Expeditions Colorado River Expeditions focuses on delivering a strong guest experience, serious training, and a team culture built around reliability, professionalism, and adventure. We are a growing company that values people who can work hard, represent the brand well, and help create a safe and memorable day on the river. Housing Housing is not included.
