Part-Time Front of House Manager Description:
TheFront of House Manager at Puppet Showplace Theater serves to provide a positive experience for both patrons (typically children ages 0
- 8 and their caregivers) and performers (typically professional touring puppeteers) at the theater.
This position reports to the Manager of Box Office and Client Relations and is responsible for managing the theater on 4-6 show days per month. On these days, the Front of House Manager leads a team of box office associates and volunteers to conduct house management, ticket and product sales, cleaning and setup of space, office administration, and creating a professional and enjoyable environment for audience members and artists alike. The ideal candidate would be responsible, outgoing, articulate, patient, friendly, good with children, comfortable on the phone and willing to assist patrons in a polite and empathetic manner.
Responsibilities:
Box Office and Theater Administration Manage the box office associates who are scheduled to work during the FOH Manager's shift. Process purchases of tickets, memberships, workshops, and retail products over the phone, email, and in person. Process and record purchases of tickets and store items. Assist with Puppet Store inventory and restocking. Enter reservations accurately using Spektrix. Assist with collecting, organizing, and reporting data from Spektrix. Ensure cleanliness of both the box office and public areas Assist with office administration tasks such as stuffing and mailing letters, organizing and cleaning data, and organizing and cleaning the workspace. Customer Service and House Management Provide polite and professional service to customers both over the phone and in person. Interact with and assist audience members and artists on performance days. Become familiar with show descriptions and other theater information so as to provide knowledgeable answers to customer questions. Usher and coordinate ushers during performances. Make announcements and speeches to the audience before shows.
Accessibility & Location:
Work will take place on-site at our theater at 32 Station Street, Brookline, MA. Our building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and bathroom. However, there are areas that the Front of House Manager will need to access during their shifts that have 1-2 steps, or are narrow. In addition, this position will be working in an environment that may be loud or crowded. We are directly across the street from the Brookline Village T station on the MBTA Green "D" Line, a 10 minute walk from the Green "E" line, and close to several bus lines, including the 66 and 65. Paid street parking is available, and free parking may be possible though cannot be guaranteed.
Rate of Pay:
This position is paid $18
- 22 an hour commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
About you! We're seeking candidates with the following qualifications: 1 or more years of experience working in a front of house role as an associate or manager, or similarly applicable management experience in a different field. Comfort addressing crowds of 100+ people. Good cheer and adaptability while working in a fast-paced theater environment. Excellent customer service, communication, and attention to detail. Professionalism and discretion in written and spoken communication. Comfort interacting and talking with children of all ages, especially children in our primary age demographic (ages 0-11). Comfort making and taking important phone calls. Basic computer competency, and enthusiasm for learning new systems. Interest in early education, puppetry, and theater for young audiences a plus! Qualifications that are nice to have, but not required: Previous experience as a Front of House Manager, House Manager, or Stage Manager. Experience with technical theater. Experience with Spektrix or similar CRM and ticketing software. Experience working with databases, spreadsheets, and data. Bilingual/multilingual skills / ability to communicate in languages other than English.

Time Commitment:
We are seeking candidates who can complete 4-6 eight-hour shifts every month. The majority of shifts will take place on Sundays from 9:30am-5:30pm. Other shifts may be offered on Saturdays, during school breaks, holiday Mondays, evenings, and occasional weekdays. Shifts may take place between the hours of 9:00am-10:00pm. Candidates may be scheduled to work on some holidays and we are currently seeking candidates who have at least 7 days of availability throughout our holiday season, which includes shows on: Fri Dec 11, Sat Dec 12, Sun Dec 13 Sat Dec 19, Sun Dec 20, Mon Dec 21, Tue Dec 22, Wed Dec 23, Thur Dec 24 Sun Dec 27, Mon Dec 28, Tue Dec 29, Wed Dec 30 Fri Jan 1, Sat Jan 2, Sun Jan 3 We can be relatively flexible with scheduling, but candidates who have matching availability will have priority.
