Educator Orlando Science Center. - 4.0 Orlando, FL Job Details Full-time $19.75 an hour 21 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Driver's License Working with children Full Job Description Educators are responsible for engaging and educating school groups and teachers about various sciences and STEM content with the use of demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. The Educator will deliver educational content in one of the following ways: classroom instruction on and off museum grounds, large capacity auditorium programming on and off museum grounds, and floor demonstrations. Educators will be expected to study curriculum and supplementary materials to gain proficiency in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts taught by the institution and improve upon existing content knowledge and teaching/presentation skills. Educators will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and writing curriculum for the Education Department. Essential Functions Responsible for delivering education programs and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations. Effective presentation skills while speaking in front of audiences of all sizes and guests of all ages. Writes and develops science curricula for on-site, off-site, virtual, camp and other programs. Assists in educational training of new staff and seasonal employees. Safely operates OSC vehicle when delivering programs offsite. Maintains a valid Florida's driver's license and acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC's insurance carrier. Ability to pass a motor vehicle report. Access to reliable transportation with proof of insurance. Demonstrates effective communication, ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision, and excellent customer service skills. Demonstrates commitment to OSC's vision, mission, and values. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma Experience & Certifications:
At least 2 years' experience working with youth or the general public in an educational environment. Applicant should have experience in curriculum development for an informal setting (museum, zoo, nature preserve). Employee must have a valid driver's license and must maintain an acceptable driving record as stipulated by OSC's insurance carrier. Must be comfortable driving an OSC vehicle. Preferred Qualifications A passion for science, education, theater, or communications, with college course work in the science field. Background in public speaking, or performance. Professional communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent coordination and project management skills, including ability to take initiative. Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks at once. Working knowledge of Science and Engineering process skills. Experience teaching informally or in a classroom is preferred. Supervisory Responsibility N/A Physical Demands Ability to remain in a stationary position. Moves throughout the museum. Ascends/descends stairs throughout the museum. Ascends/descends ladders or other equipment to perform various tasks. Observes and reacts to the needs of guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners. Communicates and exchanges accurate information with guests, staff, volunteers, and community partners in a variety of formats including in-person, electronically, and over the phone. Operates a computer and/or office equipment efficiently and accurately. Manipulates and moves components weighing up to 50 pounds, including those that may be low to the ground or above eye level. Occasionally works in outdoor environments. Frequently works in indoor environments. Coping with demands and stresses associated with job and work environment. Kneeling and Crouching (occasionally) Weight Levels - Lift, Push, Pull Up to 50 pounds Expected Hours of Work & Travel This position is full-time and must be able to work weekends and after hour events as needed. Travel throughout the Central Florida area may be required to attend conferences/trainings/deliver programs. Telecommuting This position is required to be onsite 100% of the time.
