Asheville, NC MagellanX, operated by Hobbify LLC, is a booking app for independent guides. Guides lead hikes and outdoor adventures for explorers who request them through the app. MagellanX is a technology platform that handles discovery, booking and payment. Guides are independent contractors, and MagellanX doesn't direct, supervise or guarantee guiding services. Pay Paid $20-$35 per hour, per head, plus tips, depending on tier (Standard, Professional, Expert). Paid per trip. No guaranteed hours.

Standard:

$20 per hour, per head (Charlotte, NC base rate, adjusted for cost of living).

Professional:

$25 per hour, per head. It's automatic at 48 completed trips over 6 months.

Expert:

$35 per hour, per head. It needs a valid certification (AHGA, WFA, AMGA and others) and the same trip count. You keep 100% of tips. MagellanX adds a flat $5 per hour, per head to the explorer's bill on top of your rate. Where we are The app is new and we're not sending explorers yet. At launch, bookings come from guides sharing their personal referral link. We're seeking seed funding and plan to advertise for explorers once we're funded, but we can't promise when or how many bookings that will bring. Who we're looking for A passion for the outdoors and a desire to make a living taking others on adventures. Experience preferred. You'll need a smartphone, and a background check is required. Responsibilities and risk Guides are independent contractors and are solely responsible for their own safety practices, equipment, licenses and certifications, and for following all laws and land rules. Guides are responsible for holding any permits or authorizations required for the areas they guide, and for researching those requirements. The app provides helpful information, but it's informational only, may be incomplete or out of date, and isn't a substitute for your own research. On some public land, requests go only to guides who have added a valid permit in the app. MagellanX doesn't require or provide liability insurance for guides. Guides are responsible for getting the insurance that suits their activity, and we recommend commercial general liability coverage.
