Open Until Filled This is a Part-Time < 20 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Education. For more information on the Department of Education, please visit https://doe.sd.gov/ . The South Dakota State Historical Society is a full-service historical organization located at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. We collect, preserve, research, and share the rich and complex history of South Dakota. With the revitalization of our 1989 Cultural Heritage Center underway and the recent reopening of our Museum, this is an exciting time to join our team! The Experience Associate provides exceptional customer service to visitors at the Cultural Heritage Center. This role is primarily responsible for front‑desk operations, assisting guests, answering questions, and supporting basic museum and administrative functions. The EA works closely with Society staff, visitors, maintenance, consultants, and additional partners. This is an on‑site position.
What You'll Do:
As an Experience Associate, you will: Visitor Services Cheerfully greet and assist visitors and answer incoming calls Provide information about the facility, exhibits, events, and the community Project a positive, confident, can‑do attitude Retail & Front Desk Operations Support retail operations, including cash handling and point‑of‑sale procedures Maintain accurate visitation counts Document and route donations and research requests according to procedure Museum & Administrative Support Follow established safety, security, and operational procedures Assist with building monitoring and basic security checks Read and summarize South Dakota history materials as assigned to support exhibit development
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A friendly, action‑oriented attitude and motivation to assist visitors, as well as: Basic Microsoft Office skills Curiosity and comfort learning electronic equipment and museum systems. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform repetitive motions. Comfort with both standing and sedentary front‑desk duties. Ability to work occasionally outdoors in extreme weather and awareness of wildlife. Ability to render first aid; CPR/First Aid training provided if not already certified. Schedule Museum hours are Tuesday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.; closed Mondays. With approximately 15-25 hours per week; part‑time hours will be scheduled within these times; weekend availability may be required.
Education :
High school diploma, equivalent, or higher. This is a part‑time position and is not eligible for benefits.
