A Travel or Tour Guide leads tours for groups of visitors or tourists. Leads tours of museums or famous or historic sites, and provides visitors with details and anecdotes about the history and significance of buildings, artwork or collections. ASB Team Leader STEAM Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Team Leaders provide leadership for a team of 3-5 UW student ASB Mentors throughout program preparation and the spring-break experience. Team Leaders help their team build relationships, prepare culturally relevant & sustaining STEAM lessons/activities, coordinate with a partner school, and support the logistical aspects of ASB. Description ASB Team Leaders will:
Autumn Quarter Complete asynchronous professional development and Team Leader training. Participate in at least one STEAM Outreach Event to gain additional facilitation experience. Participate in Team Leader meetings focused on classroom engagement and management, coaching, group collaboration, and preparation for ASB logistics. Winter Quarter Participate in the

seminar alongside ASB Mentors. Lead additional team meetings outside of seminar. Support team connection, communication, shared leadership, and collaboration. Help orient Mentors to their partner school, lesson plan, and expectations for ASB. Support Mentors as they adapt, develop, and rehearse culturally relevant & sustaining STEAM lessons. Help divide team responsibilities for teaching and ASB logistics. Review and provide feedback on lesson plans, daily agendas, and rehearsals. Coordinate lesson-material and supply requests. Relay required logistical information and help ensure team members complete program requirements. Serve as the primary student point of contact with the partner educator and communicate questions, requests, and program plans. Communicate team concerns and needs to Riverways staff. During

Week Support team communication, collaboration, and shared leadership. Serve as a primary point of contact with partner-school staff and lodging contacts. Help ensure the team follows expectations and protocols at its lodging site. Facilitate team and partner-teacher debriefs. Help coordinate additional school activities such as college/career conversations, assemblies, science fairs, or other partner-requested programming. Support team cohesion, reflection, and well-being throughout the week. Collaborate with other Team Leaders at shared sites when applicable.
Time Commitment:
Fall-quarter Team Leader training and professional development; the winter-quarter

seminar (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30-5:50 pm) plus additional Team Leader and team meetings; and the full UW spring-break week (March 21-26, 2027). During winter quarter, Team Leaders can expect up to approximately 2.5 hours per week of additional work outside of the seminar, including team meetings, lesson preparation, communication, and coordination.
Travel:
Required. Team Leaders travel with their team to an assigned partner community for the full UW spring-break week. Transportation, lodging, and sustenance are covered by Riverways. seminar and additional team meetings. Availability to travel for the full UW spring-break week. Experience mentoring, teaching, facilitating, or working with K-12 students. Strong communication, organization, and follow-through. Ability to provide constructive feedback and support fellow UW students. Ability to work collaboratively with ASB Mentors, partner educators, community members, and Riverways staff. Willingness to learn from and engage respectfully with rural and Tribal partner communities. Desired skills and abilities A strong ASB Team Leader candidate demonstrates: Previous experience with ASB, Riverways, STEAM outreach, or a similar community-engaged program. Experience leading, coordinating, or supporting a team. Experience developing or facilitating educational activities. Strong facilitation, teamwork, communication, and organization skills. Ability to coach peers and provide constructive feedback. Interest in culturally relevant & sustaining, gender-responsive, and accessible educational practices. Ability to adapt and problem-solve in a collaborative environment. Willingness to learn from partner educators and communities.
