Server Marzae Cellar + Provisions 100 Hanover Street, Boston, MA 02108 From $25 an hour - Part-time, Full-time From $25 an hour - Part-time, Full-time Marzae Cellar + Provisions | Server + Food RunnerPosition Summary The Server + Food Runner is responsible for delivering exceptional hospitality while ensuring every guest enjoys a seamless dining experience. This position combines attentive table service with efficient food and beverage delivery, helping create a warm, organized, and welcoming atmosphere throughout the restaurant. As an urban winery, our service style is wine-forward, approachable, and education-focused. The ideal candidate is passionate about hospitality, enjoys working as part of a collaborative team, and is excited to introduce guests to wine through thoughtful recommendations and genuine conversation.
Reports To:
General Manager and/or Front of House Lead Core Responsibilities Guest Service Provide warm, attentive, and knowledgeable hospitality to every guest. Greet guests promptly and explain Marzae's service model. Guide guests through the food and wine menus while offering thoughtful recommendations and pairings. Deliver food and beverages accurately, efficiently, and with attention to presentation. Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to requests. Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience and professionally resolve concerns. Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized dining room. Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for the Marzae brand. Table Service Take food and beverage orders accurately using the POS system. Enter orders correctly while communicating modifications or dietary restrictions to the kitchen. Describe menu items, wines, beers, and daily specials confidently. Process guest payments accurately and efficiently. Maintain awareness of section pacing to ensure timely service. Assist guests with wine selections and food pairings in an approachable manner. Support retail sales of bottled wine, merchandise, and specialty provisions when appropriate. Food Running & Service Support Deliver food promptly while ensuring proper presentation and accuracy. Verify every order before leaving the kitchen. Communicate effectively with kitchen staff regarding timing, allergies, and special requests. Assist bartenders with beverage delivery during busy service. Support fellow servers by running food whenever needed. Refill water, clear dishes, pre-bus, and reset tables efficiently. Complete opening, closing, and side work assignments. Assist with private event setup and breakdown as scheduled. Maintain cleanliness of guest-facing and service areas throughout each shift. Retail Area Assist FOH team and customers as needed with retail area (Wine + Provisions To-Go) Keep the retail area clean, organized, aesthetically pleasing, and easily shoppable. Guide customers on choosing which wines and pantry items will work best for their preferences.
Opening & Closing Responsibilities Opening Duties Include:
Setting dining room tables. Polishing glassware, silverware, and plates. Preparing service stations. Stocking napkins, menus, water stations, and service supplies. Setting up POS terminals. Reviewing daily specials, menu changes, and unavailable items. Ensuring the dining room is fully prepared for service.
Closing Duties Include:
Cleaning and sanitizing all dining room service areas. Resetting tables for the following day. Completing side work assignments. Restocking service stations and supplies. Sweeping and mopping assigned areas. Completing nightly cleaning checklists. Preparing the restaurant for the next day's service. Beverage Program & Service Model Marzae is primarily a wine bar featuring: Marzae wines by the glass and bottle Local craft beer Simple cocktails and mocktails
  • Typically two to three ingredients, with many beverages batched or served on draft.
Bar/Chef's Counter | Full Service Serviced directly by the bartender. Lounge | Full Service Serviced by servers, with beverages prepared by the bartender. General Seating | Counter Service Guests order food and beverages at the bar. Servers and food runners deliver food and beverages, maintain tables throughout service, clear dishes, and provide ongoing hospitality to ensure an exceptional guest experience. Qualifications Preferred qualifications include:
Previous serving, food running, or hospitality experience preferred. Experience in restaurants, wine bars, breweries, tasting rooms, or hospitality venues. Excellent customer service skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Strong verbal communication skills. Basic math and cash-handling skills. Experience using POS systems (Toast preferred). Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Previous wine certifications are appreciated but not required. Product Knowledge & Training Successful candidates should be excited to continually expand their knowledge of: New England and New York wine regions and varietals. Food and wine pairing. Winery production methods. Marzae encourages continuous education through regular staff tastings, wine education, and harvest intern opportunities. Employees interested in pursuing formal wine education (such as WSET or Court of Master Sommeliers coursework) are encouraged to discuss professional development opportunities with management. Required Certifications & Physical Requirements All employees must maintain current certifications including: TIPS Certification. ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or equivalent). Copies of all certifications must remain current and on file. Food Safety & Compliance Employees are expected to: Follow all food safety and sanitation standards. Understand HACCP principles and safe food handling procedures. Comply with all Massachusetts alcohol service laws. Follow all company sanitation, cleaning, and safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout every shift. Immediately report any safety or maintenance concerns. Physical Requirements This position regularly requires employees to: Stand and walk for up to 8-10 hours. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Carry multiple plates and food trays safely. Push service carts and transport food throughout the restaurant. Reach, bend, kneel, and climb step stools. Work in refrigerated storage areas when necessary. Assist with stocking wine, beverages, and service supplies. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals in accordance with applicable law. Compensation & Benefits Compensation
  • Guaranteed minimum earnings of $25/hour.
  • Approximately 30-40 hours per week preferred.
  • Overtime paid in accordance with applicable federal and Massachusetts law.
  • Tip pool distributed based on hours worked and Massachusetts regulations.
  • Payroll is processed bi-weekly. Service Charges
