Job Description
Server Position Summary The Server is responsible for providing attentive, welcoming, and efficient service to guests throughout their dining experience. Servers are expected to understand the menu, accurately take and enter orders, maintain their assigned tables, communicate effectively with the kitchen and service team, and ensure guests leave with a positive impression of the restaurant. Key Responsibilities Guest Service Greet guests promptly and professionally. Provide menus and explain menu items, specials, ingredients, and available options. Make recommendations and answer guest questions confidently. Take food and beverage orders accurately and enter them promptly into the POS system. Check on guests throughout their meal without being intrusive. Anticipate guest needs, including refills, additional utensils, condiments, and clearing. Address guest concerns professionally and involve a manager when necessary. Thank guests and provide a warm closing experience. Table & Dining Room Management Prepare and maintain tables according to restaurant standards. Keep assigned sections clean, organized, and ready for guests. Deliver food and beverages accurately and efficiently. Clear used plates, glassware, and other items throughout the meal. Reset tables promptly after guests leave. Assist with maintaining the overall cleanliness and appearance of the dining room. Menu & Order Accuracy Maintain strong knowledge of the restaurant's food and beverage menu. Understand common ingredients, allergens, modifications, and preparation methods. Confirm special requests and allergy-related information with the kitchen when necessary. Review orders for accuracy before submitting them. Verify that food delivered to the table matches the guest's order. Payments & POS Accurately process checks, credit cards, cash, discounts, and other approved forms of payment. Follow restaurant procedures regarding voids, discounts, refunds, and complimentary items. Maintain responsibility for transactions and payments handled during the shift. Teamwork Communicate clearly with hosts, bussers, runners, kitchen staff, managers, and other servers. Assist teammates when needed, including running food, clearing tables, and supporting guest requests. Complete assigned opening, running, and closing side work. Attend required meetings and training sessions. Follow manager direction and restaurant operating procedures. Food Safety & Professional Standards Follow all food safety, sanitation, and handwashing requirements. Maintain appropriate personal hygiene and uniform standards. Keep service stations and work areas clean and organized. Follow restaurant policies regarding guest safety, alcohol service, workplace conduct, and loss prevention. Immediately report safety hazards, guest incidents, or operational concerns to management. Qualifications Friendly, professional, and guest-focused attitude. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Ability to multitask and manage several tables simultaneously. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. Previous restaurant experience is preferred but not required. Must meet applicable age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages, when relevant. Physical Requirements The position requires extended periods of standing and walking and frequent bending, reaching, carrying, and lifting. Servers must be able to safely carry plates, trays, beverages, and other restaurant items during service. Performance Expectations Successful Servers are evaluated on guest service, order accuracy, menu knowledge, teamwork, cleanliness, reliability, efficiency, professionalism, and compliance with restaurant policies and procedures.
