Catering/Banquet Server
Job Description
The Catering/Banquet Server delivers polished, efficient food and beverage service at events such as weddings, corporate functions, galas, and private parties. You'll set up event spaces, serve guests, and break down afterward, working closely with the banquet team, kitchen staff, and event managers so every event runs smoothly and every guest feels well cared for. Responsibilities Set tables, chairs, linens, place settings, glassware, and centerpieces according to the event order (BEO) and floor plan Set up buffet lines, food stations, bars, and beverage service areas Polish silverware and glassware and check that all items are clean and presentable Greet guests and serve plated meals, familystyle dishes, buffets, or passed hors d'oeuvres Pour and refill water, wine, coffee, and other beverages Clear plates and glassware promptly and unobtrusively between courses Answer guest questions about menu items, ingredients, and common allergens, and relay dietary restrictions to the kitchen Serve alcohol responsibly and check IDs where required Attend preevent briefings to review menus, timing, special requests, and VIP or dietary needs Communicate with the Captain and kitchen to keep service timing on track Anticipate needs and resolve problems quickly and professionally Clear and reset the room, strip linens, and return equipment to storage Sort, wash, and store china, glassware, and serviceware Restock service stations and report damaged or missing items Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards Follow alcohol service laws and company policies Observe safe lifting, carrying, and trayhandling practices Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (often 610+ hours) Ability to lift and carry up to 2550 lbs (trays, chairs, tables, linens, equipment) Strong communication and teamwork skills Professional appearance and demeanor Ability to stay calm and organized in a fastpaced, timesensitive environment Legal eligibility to work; minimum age per SC law (typically 18+ if serving alcohol) Alcohol service certification Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching Carrying full trays overhead or at shoulder height Pushing and pulling carts and rolling equipment
