The Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Inc. (CAB), the County's designated Community Action Agency since 1965, conducts its mission to eliminate poverty through 5 service pillars: community building, employment/mentoring, immigration legal services, homelessness prevention and intervention services and special projects that serve thousands per year, with a staff of over 80 employees.General Duties:
Provides direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness residing in CAB's Low Barrier Housing Navigation Center, connecting them to resources and services in a 24/7 residential facility. The position assists with facility and resident needs such as shelter, food, hygiene, and facility maintenance/care. Monitor plays a key role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for residents, supports with day-to-day operations, and collaborates with the on-site team, including case managers who assist residents with access to long-term housing, healthcare and employment opportunities, to address barriers to stability and well-being. Duties include monitoring, safety oversightt and engaging residents with dignity and respect, de-escalating conflicts, and enforcing center guidelines to ensure well-being.Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide on-site monitoring of the center to ensure the safety and security of residents and property. Welcome residents, manage check-ins and check-outs, and maintain accurate attendance and activity logs. Create and maintain a safe, trauma-informed, and supportive environment. Conduct regular safety rounds, monitor communal spaces, and enforce program rules. De-escalate conflicts, intervene in behavioral incidents, and respond promptly to emergencies, including contacting appropriate personnel as needed. Support volunteers and partner organizations during on-site service activities such as daily meal distribution or community resource events. Maintain cleanliness and organization of communal areas and assist with light cleaning and maintenance as needed. Document incidents, shift reports, and supply needs in daily logs and communicate effectively with other team members. Provide information, referrals, and support to residents while maintaining professional boundaries. Transport residents to off-site services as needed. Ensure compliance with agency policies and health and safety protocols. Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and professional development. Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
Experience working in shelter, residential, or behavioral health settings, strongly preferred Strong, clear communication skills both in person and in writing; Bilingual/Bi-literate (written and verbal English/Spanish) skills preferred. Ability to positively and effectively de-escalate situations and support conflict resolution; Experience with trauma-informed care or harm reduction approaches, strongly preferred Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and produce professional, detailed products, projects, and communications in a timely manner. Ability to quickly create and/or follow and maintain organizational systems and protocols, assess situations, prioritize, and create action plans to accomplish multiple time sensitive and at times confidential tasks in a timelymanner. Ability to work on a computer or be on your feet for long periods of time, bend, reach and safely lift 25 pounds+ on a consistent basis. Valid California driver's license with an excellent driving record and an insured vehicle. CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire).
