Job Description

HQ0300: Internship - Human Resources HR Internship Summer 2026 Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) is seeking a Summer Intern to join our HR/Admin team, supporting day-to-day lab operations with a focus on HR, workplace experience, vendor coordination, and administrative support. This role is ideal for a student interested in HR or business operations who is looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional, fast-paced research environment. In this role, you'll contribute to a wide range of operational and HR initiatives that support the employee and intern experience. You'll partner with vendors and support workplace operations by coordinating supplies, inventory, and vendor relationships, helping ensure a well-run and welcoming environment. You'll also support front office operations, including coordinating visitor logistics, scheduling, badge creation, and catering arrangements. You will play a key role in supporting weekly onboarding for PhD student interns and staff. Working closely with the Sr. HR Generalist, you'll help ensure all new hire documentation is completed accurately, prepare onboarding materials, create ID badges, and support onboarding sessions. You'll also support semi-monthly payroll activities for interns, gaining exposure to core HR processes. In addition, you'll contribute to intern programming by helping plan events such as weekly socials, Brown Bag Lunches (BBLs), and lab-wide talks. Additional responsibilities include supporting mail and shipping operations, assisting with access cards and transit passes, and partnering with facilities vendors to maintain an organized and professional workspace. You may also gain exposure to asset tracking through light inventory support for equipment such as laptops, computers, and robotics tools. We're looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills, takes ownership of their work, and is interested in building a foundation in HR operations or workplace experience. Current students pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field are encouraged to apply. This is an opportunity to gain practical experience across HR, operations, and workplace management while working in an innovative research environment alongside a collaborative team.
