Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for developing and maintaining programs and policies in the areas of Employee Safety, Accident & Incident Prevention, Safe Work Practices, Safety Training, OSHA Compliance, Workers Compensation, Field Safety Audits, Emergency Response, Employee Wellness, Risk Management, Fire Protection, Pollution Prevention, and Safety Policies & Procedures at Orion Marine Group. The incumbent is responsible for providing safety management oversight for marine construction operations in all geographic in which the Company has marine dredging operations. This position requires over 75% travel within Washington State, Oregon, and Alaska. The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work on varying shifts, long hours (8-12 hours), and weekends hours according to project needs. The incumbent must also work in different weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and office settings. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Works to provide administrative, analytical and Safety project support. Updates weekly safety project reports, monthly PCSR reports, and quarterly safety recognition reports. Provides support for the development of bid proposals for potential customers, example: Construction Site Safety Plans, emergency action plans & statistical information. Develops and maintains the Safety department office files. Assists with Safety inspections and Safety audits by participating as a team member. Assists with Safety statistical data analysis by identifying areas for continuous improvement. Coordinates training class registration, scheduling, and provides administrative support to instructors. Provides claims (injury, damage, and pollution) administrative support by reporting, documenting and gathering insurance related information for the Safety and Compliance manager. Provides support by data entry into Safety Management System database (EHS Insight), etc.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPENTENCIES
Budget:
Performance on projects and establish estimating standards for future estimates based on analysis, assist with oversight of the historical cost.
Work Standard:
Sets high standards and well-defined goals; displays high level of effort and commitment towards completing assignments with minimal supervision.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS A
minimum of 5 years safety and health experience in marine construction environment is required. A B.S. or A.A.S. Degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety or related discipline is strongly preferred. A BCSP safety credential (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, STS-C, Etc.) is required, or the candidate must be able to obtain a BCSP credential within 1 year. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of Safety Management, local, state and federal Safety Regulations, Accident & Incident Prevention, Emergency Response, Risk Management, and standard safety Policies & Procedures. Prior experience in the Marine Construction industry is preferred. This individual must also possess training skills, communication skills (verbal and writing), and must be able to effectively interface with employees at all levels of the organization. The Company expects and requires incumbent and each of its other employees to observe and fulfill the above and all other safety responsibilities and actively work toward maintaining a safe workplace. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. This is a safety sensitive position. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate. The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.

Salary:
$95-110,000 Depending on education and experience
