Compensation:
$27-33/hr, commensurate with experience Who We Are Church Hill Landscapes is an award-winning landscape construction and gardening company dedicated to creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces that enhance clients' lives. Founded in 2002, the company has grown into a collaborative team of designers, horticulturists, masons, and field professionals who take pride in craftsmanship and community impact. Who We're Seeking The Human Resources Manager/Generalist will play a key role in supporting and developing the company's most valuable asset - its people. This position is responsible for overseeing all HR functions, including hiring, onboarding, employee relations,benefits administration, performance management, compliance, and culture-building initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and is enthusiastic about supporting both field and office staff in a dynamic, service-focused business. This role provides the opportunity to shape and define strategic direction and contribute directly to a company growing with intention. Key Responsibilities Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning Collaborate on recruitment initiatives for seasonal and year-round positions (e.g., landscape installers, gardeners, lawn service technicians, snow service providers, designers and administrative staff) Develop workforce plans aligned with year-round and seasonal needs Build relationships with local trade schools, horticulture programs, H2B Visa programs and community organizations Coordinate closely with management team on job postings, candidate screening, and interview processes, while partnering with field team managers to make final hiring decisions Onboarding & Training Design and implement structured onboarding programs for new hires Coordinate safety training, equipment training, and professional development opportunities in partnership with the field team managers Support continuing education initiatives aligned with the company's commitment to skill-building Maintain training records and certifications Employee Relations & Engagement Serve as a trusted resource for employee concerns and conflict resolution Promote a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture Support employee engagement initiatives that reinforce pride in craftsmanship and teamwork Performance Management & Professional Development Develop and manage performance review processes for both field and management staff Coach managers on performance feedback, goal setting, and employee development Support career pathing and internal advancement opportunities Compensation & Benefits Administration Administer payroll coordination, compensation structures, and benefits programs Manage benefits including PTO, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), dental, short-term disability, life insurance and retirement plan Conduct market research to ensure competitive compensation Compliance & Policy Management Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and safety regulations Maintain employee records and HR documentation Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures Partner with leadership to uphold workplace safety standards, especially for field operations HR Operations & Strategy Develop HR processes that scale with company growth (20-35 employees, seasonal fluctuations) Analyze HR metrics (turnover, retention, hiring timelines) to improve operations Collaborate with leadership on organizational planning and workforce development Support company initiatives that enhance efficiency, communication, and team alignment ================================================================ Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience) 5+ years of HR experience (generalist or manager level preferred) Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices Experience in recruiting and managing both hourly workforce populations along with leadership and management team members Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in construction, landscaping, service or trades-based industries HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) Experience supporting field-based teams and project-driven environments Familiarity with safety compliance (OSHA or similar) Key Competencies Relationship-building and emotional intelligence Organizational and time management skills Problem-solving and decision-making ability Adaptability in a seasonal, fast-paced environment Commitment to quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience Paid time off (PTO) Paid holidays Employer-funded health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) Dental benefits Company-matching retirement plan (IRA) Short-term disability Group life insurance Professional development and training opportunities
