Human Resources & Safety Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Northeast Earth Mechanics is seeking a Safety & HR Manager to lead both the Safety and Human Resources functions for our growing civil construction business. This newly created position will own both functions end-to-end, partner closely with field and office leadership, and report directly to the CEO as a member of the management team. The role is roughly half safety, half HR, and is based on-site in Pittsfield, NH. Essential Functions Safety Rebuild and lead the company-wide safety program Conduct jobsite inspections, audits, and hazard assessments Develop and deliver toolbox talks, new-hire orientations, and certification training Manage incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and OSHA logs Administer workers' compensation claims and coordinate return-to-work Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations Oversee site-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre-task planning across all active projects Get out to active jobsites regularly to observe, coach, and support field crews Human Resources Lead full-cycle recruiting for field and office roles, including project managers, pipefitters, operators, laborers, and specialized hires Manage onboarding, including in-person introductions to new hires in the field Administer benefits programs and run annual open enrollment Write and formalize company policies, including the employee referral program. • Manage new hires, terminations, and lifecycle data in HRHQ Support the performance review process and coach managers through execution Handle employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions Coach managers through difficult conversations Core Competencies Highly motivated, results oriented, and driven Excellent interpersonal communication, with the ability to build trust across the office, the management team, and the jobsite Strong listening skills and the ability to coach others Good planning and organizational skills, with the ability to properly prioritize work across competing demands Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee and safety matters A strong ability to be adaptable and flexible Team player Ability to work with teams and be part of the decision-making process in a team environment Education and Experience Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience across HR and safety Experience in construction, manufacturing, utilities, or another frontline operational environment strongly preferred Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations Demonstrated experience building or rebuilding a safety program Solid HR foundation across benefits, employee relations, recruiting, and handbook development Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms. Position Type This is a full-time, salaried, on-site position based in Pittsfield, NH. • Base salary of approximately $90,000, plus profit share that has historically run 10-15% of base. Total compensation is generally around $100,000-$105,000, with comprehensive benefits.
