Job Description
Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Trident is a privately held, 100 percent USA-owned company with primary seafood processing operations and fleet support in twelve Alaska communities. Trident's global operations produce finished wild Alaska seafood products in 6 countries and its sales teams serve customers in over 50 countries. Trident employs approximately 9,000 people worldwide each year and partners with over 5,400 independent fishermen and crewmembers. Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also includes cultured and wild species from a network of trusted sources worldwide. Directs and oversees the activities of the engine room regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally:
Essential Functions:
Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel's engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy and local, state and federal laws and regulations. Directs capital projects (e.g. drydocking, installation and repair projects), including the scheduling, budgeting and compliance with license, permit and other applicable codes and regulations. Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts. Must be able to give specific directions in the case of an emergency. Can include launching a raft, donning an immersion suit or life preserver, assist in a response to fire or flooding. Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservations and preventative maintenance programs. Analyzes human resource needs to assist with short and long term projects. Confers with Captain and management to determine engineering feasibility and cost effectiveness of present or future projects. Oversees the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering start are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements. Must be able to forecast operating costs of department and assists in preparation of budget requests. Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, and/or inter-departmental relations. Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must hold valid USCG engineering license of
DDE 4000
HP or greater (or a higher-level Chief Engineer license). Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate horsepower. STCW endorsement, etc.) when required.
Experience:
Freighters Three years as Engineer of a similar sized vessel. Three years as an Assistant Engineer on a similar sized vessel. Advanced fire fighting skills. Current First Aid and CPR cards. Clean vessel safety record. Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for. Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures. Basic HR awareness and training. Familiarity with state and federal regulations that apply to the vessel being applied for. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to Read, speak, write and understand English and use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to utilize interpersonal, teamwork, decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem analysis, and supervision skills.
