Club Controller
Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and member billing.
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
Produce monthly financial reports, budget variance analyses, cash flow projections, and key performance metrics for the General Manager and Club Owner.
Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and related financial reviews with outside auditors and accountants.
Maintain internal controls and safeguard Club assets.
Monitor cash flow and assist with reserve and capital planning.
Oversee sales tax, payroll tax, property tax, and regulatory filings.
Assist department managers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Develop and monitor annual operating and capital budgets.
Analyze business trends and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
Assist with financial oversight of capital improvement and restoration projects. Human Resources Administration Administer payroll processing and ensure compliance with federal, state, and California wage and hour regulations.
Coordinate employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, workers' compensation, and related employee programs.
Maintain personnel records and HR documentation.
Assist managers with recruiting, onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes.
Support employee relations matters and maintain strict confidentiality regarding personnel issues.
Monitor compliance with employment laws and Club policies.
Coordinate annual benefits enrollment and employee communications.
Assist in the development and implementation of employee handbook updates and HR policies.
Maintain required labor law postings and employment records.
Serve as a resource to employees regarding payroll, benefits, and employment-related questions.
Coordinate workers' compensation claims and unemployment matters. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities Serve as a member of the Club's senior management team.
Participate in regular financial review meetings with the General Manager and Club Owner, providing analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
Provide financial insight to support operational and capital investment decisions.
Assist with insurance administration, risk management programs, and contract administration.
Oversee accounting and administrative staff while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and service.
Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
Maintain strong relationships with banking, insurance, payroll, and professional service partners.
Candidate Qualifications Experience Minimum of five years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
Private club, hospitality, hotel, resort, restaurant, or related service industry experience strongly preferred.
Experience with payroll administration and human resources functions preferred.
Experience partnering directly with owners, executives, and senior leadership teams preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Working knowledge of California payroll, employment, and HR regulations.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management systems. Northstar proficiency is a plus.
Experience with Jonas Club Software or similar club management software preferred.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
CPA, CMA, SHRM, PHR, or similar professional designation is a plus.
