Department:
Human Resources supports the development and interpretation of policies and procedures, recruitment, retention, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), training and development, salary administration, position classification, benefits, workers' compensation, employee assistance program, health and wellness, performance evaluations, etc. In support of the City's workforce, the Human Resources Department provides a full range of functions and services to over 2,000 full time and part-time employees.
Benefits Specialist Position Overview:
This is professional Human Resources work involving a variety of specialized assignments associated with the administration of the City of Huntsville employee's group insurance plans and related benefit programs. Work involves supporting the Insurance and Benefits Manager and/or the Director of Human Resources in the coordination, control, maintenance and processing of enrollments and claim records. Work involves the adherence to the City's policies and procedures covering the privacy of and access to employees' protected health information in compliance with federal and state laws and the City's information privacy practices.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Financial Administration, Public Administration or a related field from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education supplemented by responsible clerical experience related to insurance and benefits is required. Intermediate to advanced EXCEL skills are required. (An Excel skills test will be administered to those applicants selected for an interview) Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
