Job Description

The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of biweekly payroll for approximately 150 employees and growing as well as the day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs using UKG. This role supports HR operations by maintaining employee records, responding to payroll and benefits inquiries, and applying a working knowledge of common employment and payroll-related laws. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and a service-oriented mindset. Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration Process biweekly payroll for ~150 employees, currently, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Audit payroll for hours worked, PTO usage, rate changes, bonuses, deductions, and special payments. Maintain payroll records including earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and direct deposit. Process employee lifecycle changes (new hires, terminations, job changes, final pay). Administer wage garnishments and deductions in accordance with applicable laws. Partner with Finance to ensure payroll journals, reports, and reconciliations are accurate and timely. Support payroll tax filings and year-end processes (W-2 support). Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and resolve employee payroll questions promptly. Benefits Administration Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits. Manage benefit enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, and terminations in HRIS and with carriers. Coordinate and support annual open enrollment activities. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee benefits questions and issue resolution. Ensure accurate payroll deductions related to benefits. Support COBRA coordination and qualifying event reporting (as applicable). Maintain benefit documentation, plan summaries, and employee communications. Compliance & Employment Law Support Apply a baseline understanding of common employment law concepts, including: Wage and hour fundamentals (overtime, exempt vs. non-exempt awareness) Payroll record retention and confidentiality requirements Required payroll deductions and tax withholding basics Leave tracking and benefits impacts Maintain accurate payroll and benefits documentation to support audits and compliance reviews. Identify potential compliance issues and escalate to HR leadership as needed. HRIS & Data Management Maintain accurate employee data across payroll, HR, and benefits modules. Run standard and ad hoc reports related to payroll, benefits, and headcount. Assist with process improvements and payroll/benefits documentation. Support HRIS enhancements, troubleshooting, and system upgrades partnering with UKG Support for all HRIS modules. Generate reports and dashboards to support HR decision-making. Required Qualifications 2+ years of payroll and/or benefits administration experience. Hands-on experience using an HRIS system, UKG experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information. Working knowledge of payroll practices and employment-law-related payroll requirements. Proficiency in Excel and comfort with HRIS and payroll systems. Strong communication and customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications Exposure to benefits open enrollment and vendor coordination. Payroll or HR certification (FPC, CPP, SHRM-CP) a plus. Experience partnering with Finance on payroll reconciliation. Experience administering payroll for multi-state employees.
