Job Description Three-Year Rotational Program for Payroll, Benefits, and Retirement Department The Rotational Analyst Program is a three-year developmental opportunity designed for an mid-career professional to gain comprehensive, hands-on experience across Payroll, Benefits Administration, and Retirement functions. Through a series of structured rotations—sequenced based on business priorities and individual development needs, participants will build technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership capabilities. Analyst will gain ongoing exposure to cross-functional initiatives by partnering with HR, Finance, and IT on key projects impacting payroll, benefits, and retirement. This experience includes supporting change management efforts and contributing to process improvements that enhance efficiency and employee experience.
Program Structure Overview Duration:
3 years Required experience: 5+ years in HR or related field
Rotations:
Rotations across core areas (Payroll, Benefits Administration, and Retirement Plans)
Supplementary Learning:
Training sessions, certifications, and workshops.
Mentorship:
Assignment of a senior mentor for guidance throughout the program. Rotations are intentionally structured but not predetermined, allowing for alignment with evolving business priorities and individualized development plans.
Payroll Operations Objectives :
Understand payroll processing cycles and timelines. Learn to use payroll platform (e.g. Workday). Process employee timecards, deductions, garnishments, and taxes. Perform audits to ensure accuracy in paychecks and compliance with regulations.
Key Deliverables :
Complete a payroll processing cycle independently (under supervision). Contribute to resolving payroll discrepancy or audit issue.
Benefits Administration Objectives :
Gain exposure to health, dental, vision, and life insurance plan administration. Assist with open enrollment periods, ensuring accurate employee elections. Learn to create, update and maintain employee benefit records Handle employee benefit inquiries and escalations.
Key Deliverables :
Support open enrollment end-to-end. Create a report analyzing employee benefit participation trends.
Retirement Objectives :
Understand the structure of 401(k), Non-qualified plans, pension plans, and other retirement offerings. Learn compliance requirements (ERISA, IRS limits). Assist with retirement plan audits and Form 5500 filings.
Key Deliverables :
Create an educational guide for employees on maximizing retirement savings. Support the improvement process from compliance audit.
Ongoing Throughout Program Learning & Development :
Participate in relevant industry training (e.g., CPP for Payroll, CEBS for Benefits). Attend workshops on compliance (FMLA, ACA, HIPAA) and professional development (e.g., Excel for data analysis, project management basics). Present findings on a strategic project to department leadership.
Mentorship & Networking :
Meet monthly with a senior mentor to discuss career goals and gain insights. Join industry groups or attend conferences to build professional connections.
