POSITION PURPOSE
Will serve as a specialist in grounds care and maintenance. Duties include safely operating various types of grounds equipment; care of landscape and grounds, including snow removal, garbage pick-up, mowing, watering, cultivating, spraying, fertilizing, trimming, planting flowers, trees, shrubs and grass; maintenance of athletic facilities and parking lot, including moving equipment and furniture, maintaining artificial turf, and garbage pickup at events; maintenance, programming, and repair of manual and electronic irrigation systems; supervision of student, regular, and temporary employees; and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
use of grounds equipment; gardening and grounds maintenance practices, including artificial turf and athletic field maintenance (not required but preferred); safe use of fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides; safe disposal of hazardous wastes; sprinkler and irrigation systems; types and varieties of trees and plants.
Ability to:
communicate information clearly and concisely, exercising tact, patience, discretion and professional demeanor; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner with students, faculty, staff and visitors; operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools, and related equipment; work independently, prioritize assigned work, establish timetables, and meet deadlines; read, comprehend, and follow instructions; work outdoors, lift and carry heavy items in excess of 50 lbs., perform physical labor, bend, squat, and work in all types of extreme temperatures or weather conditions; recognize and diagnose plant diseases, identify insect destruction and perform the necessary corrective action; organize and delegate assignments; provide outstanding customer service.
COMMENTS
A valid driver's license is required. Will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed for snow removal. Normal hours are early morning start with an 8-hr shift.
