The Civil Rights Investigator serves as part of a team that investigates and resolves complaints of protected class harassment and discrimination, including sex harassment, under the institutional Equal Opportunity, Harassment, and Non-Discrimination Policy. The investigator supports the University in providing a workplace and educational environment, as well as other benefits, programs, and activities, that are free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation by conducting thorough, reliable, and impartial investigation and timely resolution of formal complaints. This position is paid per diem and ineligible for benefits.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with the Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator to develop strategic plan for investigation of complaints of harassment and discrimination (under Title VI, Title VII), including sexual harassment (under both Title IX and/or institutional policy). Conducts thorough, reliable, and impartial investigation in response to such complaints. Maintains relevant documentation including an investigative timeline and records of correspondence, statements, interviews, evidence, and questions for parties/witnesses. Gathers and analyzes available evidence, assesses credibility of parties/witnesses, and makes recommendations/findings as appropriate and in accordance with law/policy. Participates in the resolution process as a witness, when investigating a complaint. May serve in other roles including, but not limited to intake, process advisor, hearing facilitator, decision maker, appellate officer, or informal resolution facilitator, for complaints they are not already investigating. Participates in annual training appropriate to investigative responsibilities and applicable law/policy. Works collaboratively with other investigators, University officials in Student Life, Human Resources, Provost's Office, Campus Police, and others as appropriate, including local law enforcement. Performs other job-related tasks as assigned or needed.QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree and prior investigatory experience, preferably with specific experience investigating or resolving harassment, discrimination and/or sexual misconduct. Experience working in higher education is preferred. Ability to understand the University environment and to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff, in a wide array of situations. Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with diplomacy, impartially, and excellent judgment. Superior interpersonal, organizational, interviewing, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate and build rapport with diverse constituents. Computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office and Google applications is essential.TO APPLY
