Job Description

About Support for Families of Children with Disabilities Support for Families of Children with Disabilities is a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization providing information, education, and support to families raising children with disabilities, developmental concerns, and complex medical needs. We partner with parents/caregivers and professionals to strengthen community, build capacity, and ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Services include a centralized access phone line, drop-in center, information and referrals, parent mentoring, developmental screenings, trainings and workshops, community education, inclusive family events, and citywide initiatives. Services are offered in English, Spanish, and Cantonese. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Early Learning & Inclusion Manager and in collaboration with the Director of Education, the Developmental Inclusion Specialist supports both systems-level inclusion efforts: early childhood education providers as well as providers of school age (afterschool programs) and community supports. This role is structured as approximately 80% Training, Technical Assistance, Inclusion (TTA) to early childhood education providers and 20% Training and Technical Assistance to school age programs: The Specialist provides training, coaching, and technical assistance to early childhood educators and administrators on inclusive practices, ASQ screenings, and information and referrals as needed to supportive services. In addition to the early childhood inclusion work described above, this position will also support inclusion efforts in publicly funded school-age and community-based programs serving children and youth with disabilities and developmental concerns including Beacon programs, community schools, before- and after-school programs, and summer and recreation programs. The role collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners.
Core Responsibilities Training, Technical Assistance & Inclusion ECE Settings:
Design, facilitate, and co-lead site-based trainings and webinars on inclusive early learning and school age practices Provide intensive coaching and technical assistance to selected early childhood sites, school age and community providers, including development and implementation of child support plans Collaborate with site-based staff and consultants (e.g., mental health consultants, quality coaches, SLPs, OTs, behavioral support providers) to strengthen inclusive practices Develop and contribute to curriculum for training activities and communities of practice Lead follow-up activities for participants attending inclusion trainings and workshops Support networking opportunities for educators and administrators through office hours and community of practice events Develop, support, and promote equitable inclusion policies and practices, including screening and referral procedures Represent Support for Families in cross-sector and partner meetings as requested Inclusion Coaching for
Publicly Funded School-Age & Community Programs:
Coaching staff and program leaders on inclusive practices that support participation, belonging, and access Supporting staff in navigating challenging situations related to behavior, regulation, communication, sensory needs, and group participation Modeling strengths-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approaches to inclusion Supporting development of inclusion strategies and child support approaches when needed Helping programs identify when and how to access additional supports and resources Building capacity so children and youth with disabilities can meaningfully participate alongside peers Data, Collaboration & Systems Coordination (Integrated Across Role) Collect, maintain, and report training, coaching, and technical assistance data in Salesforce and other required systems Work closely with the Department of Early Childhood, DCYF and partner agencies on planning, implementation, and evaluation of technical assistance initiatives Follow agency protocols and participate in internal meetings, planning, and evaluation activities Perform other duties as assigned Desired Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's or master's degree in early childhood education, Special Education, or a related field (e.g., SLP, OT, PT) Awareness and understanding ASQ-3 and
ASQ:
SE-2 screenings Extensive experience in inclusive early childhood, childcare settings and/or school age programs Experience working with families of children with developmental concerns, disabilities, and/or complex medical needs Experience leading effective and engaging adult education/training activities Knowledge of Early Start, early childhood systems and school age service supports Fluency in English/Spanish or English/Cantonese strongly preferred Lived experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with special needs and/or as a person with a disability or another historically excluded identity Experience working with underserved communities, including families of color and/or monolingual families Required Training Completion of the ASQ-3 and
ASQ:
SE-2 training is required (If not already completed, training must be completed within six months of the start date.) Salary and Benefits The salary for this position is $72,000 annually. Support for Families provides a suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options, paid sick and vacation leave, 401k, and generous paid holidays.
