Mt. Spokane High School Inclusion & Behavior Intervention Specialist 1.0 Continuing - Special Education
JOB SUMMARY
Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Educate students by planning, developing, and delivering a course of study according to student learning objectives, district/building curriculum guidelines, and student assessment data.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Implement the educational program, comprehensive related services and accommodations, and modifications as outlined in the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Implement a positive educational approach by providing a safe, positive, and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learning. Implement a multi-tiered system of support for behavior within the classroom and school. Work cooperatively with others in achieving common goals and supporting Professional Learning Communities. Monitor the implementation of IEPs, including school-wide implementation of modification/accommodations and progress toward goals and objectives. Act as a case manager for the IEP, partnering with parents and working closely with the building team Develop, implement, and review the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and related services, accommodations, and modifications as required by state and federal law for students who qualify for special education services. This includes writing goals and objectives for identified needs using standardized and classroom-based assessment data. Work cooperatively with others in achieving common goals supporting Professional Learning Communities Utilize para educators as part of a team by providing training, management, direction, and support. Perform teaching responsibilities and accountability procedures as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Special Education Law. Develop, implement, and support effective lesson plans and instructional materials that allow students to utilize and practice higher-level thinking skills Design engaging activities, skills teaching, and differentiated lessons ls so that all students may access the curriculum and benefit from the educational experience. Provide for large and small group and individualized instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student Establish and communicate clear objectives for all intervention strategies and techniques including communicating information on student progress. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development and provide appropriate feedback on work utilizing methods such as assigning and grading classwork, homework, tests, and assignments Continually assess student progress, and implement effective lessons to meet individual student learning needs as determined by student assessment data Progress Monitor using approved, research-based tools for each goal area and report progress as required by law and district expectations and as stated in the students' IEPs. Provide opportunities for students to self-reflect and track progress toward learning goals Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures of the school building and the district Work as an effective member of the grade level/course team to evaluate and improve student learning Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress in a timely and professional manner Provide and/or arrange for the successful transition of students to multiple general education settings. Provide wrap-around services and supports to students and families Facilitate and assist school staff in the systematic use of crisis intervention strategies and techniques, including crisis cycle, de-escalation, emergency response, escorting, and restraint. Work within a school-wide system to provide behavioral support and coaching to students and staff. Participate in MTSS / Tier III intervention team meetings Regularly engage students, families, and staff in conversations in regard to progress relative to individualized achievement plans. Coordinate and collaborate on necessary academic and nonacademic interventions for each student, working in collaboration with teachers, administrators, case managers, and counselors. Closely monitor student data and provide proactive and preventative support triggered by data. Develop goals in collaboration with students and staff based on data analysis. Build relationships with students in need of behavioral and academic support and increase their feeling of belonging within the school. Perform other duties as assigned by administrators of the Mead School District.
QUALIFICATIONS
Washington State teaching certificate endorsed in Special Education and with appropriate endorsement/s as required by law and regulation, or ability to obtain said Washington State teaching certificate. Ability to articulate and implement Washington State Standards for the relevant content area. Cultural Competency; ability to effectively work with diverse populations.

Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills with parents, colleagues, and administration Demonstrates ability to challenge students academically, to promote the highest level of learning Demonstrates comprehensive content knowledge as it relates to state standards Demonstrates knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including student self-assessment, formative assessment, portfolios, and anecdotal records Demonstrates ability to make data-driven instructional decisions Exhibits the ability to build a positive learning environment including modeling respect and honoring the dignity of all students, staff, and parents Demonstrates effective classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups, and individuals in an environment conducive to learning Demonstrates ability to develop rapport with students Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with a team, contributing in a positive way Exhibits a commitment to ongoing professional learning including demonstrating the ability to develop professionally in areas of the school and district focus Demonstrates knowledge and application of current technology with a multimedia approach to instruction and management of instruction
DESIRED CRITERIA
Has training or experience with the following; Balanced Literacy, Modifying Curriculum, Social/Adaptive Skills Training, Writing Social Stories, Right Response, Crisis Cycle, Six Traits, and Appropriate Assessments (ie. MSP, QRI, Running Records, and Dibels) Ability to determine and design interventions using a multi-tiered approach Experience with PBIS and Multi-tiered Systems Experience in differentiating instruction for students with disabilities Direct instruction, data collection, behavior management, analysis skills, and classroom experience with behaviorally disabled students, are preferred. Willingness to work with outside agencies to provide student and family support Washington State teaching certificate or endorsement in General Education as well as Special Education teaching certificate.
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT and Salary:
As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Education Association (MEA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. CBAs and Salary Schedules can be reviewed from the Human Resources page of the Mead School District website at https://www.mead354.org/apps/pages/Human_Resources/ . Mead policies and Procedures can be accessed online at https://www.mead354.org/apps/pages/Board_Policies/ The salary range for teachers in the Mead School District is between $59,323.50 and $120,245.42 per school year. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn five (5) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their percentage of FTE. Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over the school year are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
