Bakersfield Office General Summary The HR Assistant is responsible for performing a wide variety of human resources related activities including payroll, Worker's Compensation, FMLA, and LOA. In addition, this position is responsible for providing necessary support and assistance in other human resources projects and activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer the leave of absence programs and provide concise and accurate information to employees. Investigate, evaluate, and determine benefit eligibility of Disability/LOA claims in a timely fashion. Manage leaves that are concurrent with Short Term Disability and Worker's Compensation. Determine the duration associated with the leave based on the information given by the healthcare provider. Facilitate resolution for employees on issues such as Worker's Compensation, health benefits, payroll, and LOAs. Prepare and maintain employment records related to events such as hiring, leaves, warnings, transfer, or promotions. Interpret and explain human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations. Assist in hiring employees and process hiring-related paperwork. Schedule new employee orientations. Assist with the reviewing and identifying of qualified job applicants, scheduling interviews, validating references, scheduling pre-employment exams and onboarding. Administer and monitor Workers' Compensation claims, providing injured employees with relevant information and support through the claims process. Perform general office duties such as answering telephone calls, greeting employees, entering data, maintaining records,performing basic bookkeeping work, and ordering supplies. Required Skills and Abilities Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Must maintain up to date working knowledge of FMLA, and other State and Federal laws that affect leaves. Ability to maintain a strict degree of confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Analytical and problem solving skills, and must pay close attention to detail. Demonstrate ability to recognize problems and identify solutions. Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field or two to three years of related experience and/or training. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Proficient in 10-key, all Microsoft Office applications, and computer software. Bilingual (Spanish/English); ability to translate Company documents. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field from a four-year college or university. Physical Demands Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision. Must be able to bend and occasionally lift up to 20lbs. Work Environment Must be able to work in an office environment. Work environment includes typical computer and paper related noise levels. Will rarely be exposed to environmental conditions. Hours and Workdays 8:00AM-5:00
