ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Monterey's Human Resources Department is seeking a Part-Time Seasonal HR Technician to provide administrative and operational support across a variety of Human Resources functions. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the HR field while supporting the day-to-day operations of a public-sector Human Resources Department. The Part-time HR Technician is a non-career track, hourly position excluded from CalPERS membership and will work approximately 20-29 hours per week. Responsibilities may include supporting recruitment and selection activities, maintaining personnel records, processing employment-related documents, performing data entry, responding to routine employee inquiries, and providing general administrative support to the HR team. SUMMARY:
Under basic supervision, performs a variety of specialized administrative, technical support, and customer service duties for human resources programs.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Part-time Human Resources Technician position is a non-career track, hourly-based position excluded from CalPERS membership. Employees may work for a limited period or on a regular part-time schedule throughout the year. Work schedule and hours vary based on the needs of the City and employee availability. Minimum hours and specific work shifts are not guaranteed and may be adjusted by the employer at any time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform clerical, administrative and technical support functions. Maintain and update a variety of computer databases and files; enter, edit, and retrieve data, and prepare reports; review and process invoices, requisitions, and documents. Process a variety of administrative forms; maintain and update City records and information tracking systems; prepare correspondence, reports, accounting records, and administrative documents. Arrange and schedule appointments and meetings; screen visitors and phone callers. Support the relationship between the City of Monterey and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff. Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and City information. Participates in the planning and coordination of specified HR programs and initiatives for faculty and staff. Participates in and may deliver presentations at special outreach activities such as fairs, employee orientations, and/or applicant consultations. May participate in the development and recommendation of operating policy and procedural improvements. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
Completion of high school or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Two (2) years of clerical experience or One (1) year experience working in a Personnel/Human Resources Department. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Environmental Elements Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
