Full Job Description Position Overview:
The Human Resources Coordinator serves as the on-site HR resource for our California location. This position owns day-to-day HR processes across the employee lifecycle, including recruiting support, onboarding, leave administration, benefits support, employee relations, and California compliance, and serves as the site liaison to centralized payroll and HR functions in Georgia. The Coordinator applies sound judgment within established policies and procedures, escalating complex or high-risk matters to the CHRO. This full-time, non-exempt role offers professional development and potential advancement to HR Generalist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruiting & Onboarding Assist the Georgia-based recruiting team with California hiring, including coordinating interviews with site managers, communicating with local candidates, and gathering hiring manager feedback Review California job postings before publication for required pay scale disclosure (California Labor Code 432.3) and California Fair Chance Act compliance; flag issues to the recruiting team Coordinate local pre-employment steps, such as background checks and drug screens, in partnership with the recruiting team and consistent with the Fair Chance Act individualized assessment process Conduct new hire orientation; complete and verify Form I-9 within required timeframes; issue California-required new hire notices, including the Wage Theft Prevention Act notice Leave & Benefits Administration Administer leaves of absence under FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave, and California paid sick leave, including eligibility tracking, required notices, and return-to-work Coordinate the interactive process for accommodation requests in partnership with the CHRO, and document outcomes Support benefits enrollment, life event changes, and open enrollment; coordinate SDI and Paid Family Leave paperwork with employees Employee Relations Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions and concerns regarding policies, procedures, and workplace issues Advise supervisors on routine performance, attendance, and conduct matters; prepare and maintain corrective action documentation Intake complaints and support workplace investigations under the direction of the CHRO; promptly escalate allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or safety violations Coordinate separations, including exit paperwork and California final pay timing requirements Compliance & Safety Administer the California harassment prevention training cycle (two hours for supervisors, one hour for non-supervisory employees, every two years and within six months of hire or promotion) and track completion Maintain required federal and California workplace postings and annual notice updates Conduct periodic I-9 and personnel file audits; maintain records in accordance with California retention requirements Coordinate workers' compensation claims; maintain the Cal/OSHA Form 300 log and support the site Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) Payroll & Timekeeping Liaison Serve as site liaison to centralized payroll in Georgia on California wage and hour requirements, including meal and rest period premiums, daily overtime and double-time, final pay, and wage statement requirements Review site timekeeping for accuracy prior to payroll submission; coordinate corrections with supervisors and payroll Process employee status changes in the HRIS HR Records & Reporting Maintain accurate and confidential personnel, medical, and I-9 files Prepare routine HR reports, including headcount, turnover, open requisitions, and leave status Process employment verifications and coordinate site HR communications and engagement activities Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent At least 5 years of human resources experience with California employment law and wage and hour requirements Working knowledge of leave administration, onboarding, and HR recordkeeping Familiarity with HR systems such as ADP Workforce Now and UKG Ready Strong judgment in applying policy and recognizing when matters require escalation Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting a manufacturing or hourly workforce Bilingual in English and Spanish Associate's or bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field aPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP certification, or active progress toward one Physical Demands The physical demands below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position.
