Job Description

The City of Garden City is looking for a Human Resources Coordinator to support recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, HRIS transactions, and other Human Resources programs. This position serves as a resource to employees and applicants and assists the Human Resources Department with a variety of HR functions and services. Answers telephone and receives general public; provides information regarding job openings, explanation of employee benefits, and the Grow Well Clinic. Directs callers and walk-in traffic to the appropriate city department or source of assistance. Completes visa statements and purchase orders for HR staff. Maintains employee files, office records, inventory of office supplies, and equipment. Responsible for purchase orders, requisitions, and travel arrangements. Handles confidential records, correspondence, and/or reports. Conducts new hire orientation that includes an extensive explanation of health insurance and other employee benefits. Coordinates advertising, post offer paperwork, and background checks. Act as the liaison for the Wellness Committee and coordinate wellness activities. Maintain HRIS records in Tyler Technologies, specifically track authorized position changes, and process all personnel actions. Perform data entry and personnel file maintenance. Assists employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures. Responds to reference checks and verifications of employment status. Assists City Management and Cultural Relations Board with the planning and execution of the diversity projects and other community cultural events. Assists in ensuring all Human Resources information is communicated to City employees. Coordinates and makes all preparations for all HR related meetings and trainings. Attend and/or volunteer with the local SHRM chapter meetings to attain further HR knowledge and participate in continuing education for the HR field.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of employment laws and human resource best practices Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement. Ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, and benefit programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, applicants, and the public. Skills in filing, word processing, data entry; i.e., specifically Microsoft Word, Publisher, Outlook and Excel. Experience with HRIS systems. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments. Skill in assessing, analyzing, identifying and recommending solutions to problems
Education, Certification and Experience:
A degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred. Basic knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and computer technology. Bilingual skills preferred. Ability to obtain a valid Kansas driver's license within 60 days. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a deadline-oriented office environment. Other desirable skills include advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader, multi-lingual, and proven communication and organizational skills.
