Summary/Objective:
The Safety and Workforce Development Coordinator delivers day‑to‑day site safety leadership across Environmental Systems (ESD) projects in the NC region, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting project teams to achieve measurable safety performance. This role enforces company safety protocols to ensure compliance with federal, state, and location regulations. This role partners with Safety personnel, project leadership, field teams, corporate support services and trade partners to identify hazards, lead incident response, enforce safety standards, and manage safety program execution at the project level while supporting corporate and divisional safety objectives and budget responsibilities. This role supports and empowers project teams to uphold the highest standards of worker health and safety.
Essential Functions:
Project Site Support Provide daily on-site safety oversight and guidance for assigned projects; conduct job-site safety observations and enforce company safety standards. Ensure Toolbox Talks, and pre-task planning is being conducted. Create Site Specific Safety Plans. Stop-work authority to address imminent hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Program Execution and Compliance Implement and maintain project-level safety plans consistent with corporate policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, AHJ, etc.). Conduct regular site audits and inspections; document findings and track corrective actions. Review subcontractor safety plans and monitor Trade Partner compliance. Trade Partner subcontract safety management. Incident Management Lead or assist in incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective/preventive actions. Maintain accurate incident records, prepare reports for internal leadership and regulatory agencies as required. Respond to after-hours incidents and provide on-site leadership during emergency situations. Training and Communication Promote a culture of safety through communication, recognition, and engagement. Provide safety orientation and ongoing training (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, i.e.) for all assigned employees. Track training completion and maintain training records. Communicate safety performance, trends, and recommendations to the Safety Manager/s, Operational Leadership, and project teams. Workforce Development Assist with ESD recruiting efforts. Coordinate with HR for orientation and onboarding of new employees. Documentation of field employees' personnel actions. Coordinate moving and tracking crew assignments. Support Performance Management process. Assist with managing technical training for field personnel. Program Improvement and Budget Identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Support corporate safety program updates and provide feedback. Documentation and Reporting Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection logs, and inspection records for internal and regulatory purposes.

Cross-functional collaboration with Project Managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors, corporate safety clients, and regulatory bodies. Ability to influence field behavior and drive accountability without direct supervisory authority. Experience working on multiple projects and coordinating with other safety personnel. Experience in leading safety committees and fostering employee engagement. Technical Tools Proficiency with digital safety platforms and reporting tools; experience with Procore, or similar systems preferred. Competency in data analysis to identify trends and recommend preventive measures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct reports but works collaboratively with other safety personnel supporting the same divisions and with safety personnel across other divisions. The Safety & Workforce Development Coordinator provides guidance, mentorship, and direction to field personnel and Trade Partners on safety matters and leads project-level safety initiatives. The role collaborates with executives, operations leadership, and field teams to embed safety into all phases of construction. Additionally, the role leads cross-functional safety committees, manages third-party safety consultants, and ensures trade partner safety compliance through oversight and coordination. This position requires strong leadership to foster accountability, drive continuous improvement, and maintain a proactive safety culture across all job sites.
Work Environment:
This role operates in a dynamic and fast-paced setting that includes both office and field environments. While planning, reporting, and team coordination occur in a professional office atmosphere, the role requires frequent travel to active construction sites where exposure to varying weather conditions, loud noise, and physical hazards is common. The position demands regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the ability to navigate uneven terrain, scaffolding, and other construction-related structures. Flexibility in schedule is essential to respond to incidents, conduct audits, and support project teams across multiple locations. This role involves collaboration with diverse stakeholders and requires a strong presence with field operations to ensure safety is embedded at every level of the organization.
Physical Demands:
This position must be able to perform duties that require both physical mobility and sensory acuity.
This includes the ability to:
Move across active construction sites, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding. Remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a desk or attending meetings Lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally. Operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Communicate effectively in noisy environments, including verbal exchanges with field personnel. Observe and assess safety conditions, requiring near and far visual acuity. Respond quickly to emergencies, which may involve walking, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when visiting job sites. There may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as papers, books, small parts, driving an automobile, etc. This work may be physically demanding and mentally demanding, with many deadlines needing to be met consistently. The role demands regular travel and the ability to adapt to varied physical environments and weather conditions.
Travel Required:
This position requires frequent travel to active construction sites, regional offices, and industry events across multiple geographic locations. The role must be available to conduct on-site safety audits, lead training sessions, respond to incidents, and support project teams in real time. Travel may include overnight stays and occasional weekend or evening site visits, depending on project needs and emergency response requirements. A valid US driver's license and reliable transportation are essential. The role demands flexibility and a strong presence in the field to ensure consistent implementation of safety standards and foster a culture of accountability across all job sites.

Education and Experience:
Minimum:
2-5 years of experience in construction safety with demonstrated site-level oversight.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
Required:
OSHA 10/30
Construction (or willing to obtain).
Preferred:
CHST, OSHA 500.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices. Military Experience a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with safety management software and reporting tools. Industry certifications. Accreditation with one or more professional organizations. Conflict resolution, coaching, and stakeholder management.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
Pre-employment background check and drug screening. Valid driver's license required; no CDL required. This role does not work on union job sites.
