Salary Grade Case Western Reserve University is committed to providing a transparent estimate of the salary range available for this position at the time of its posting. The salary range is between $52,705 and $66,672, depending on qualifications, experience, department budgets, and industry data. Employees receive more than just a paycheck. POSITION OBJECTIVE
Advance the strategy of Human Resources by administering effective operations and supporting HR's strategic direction. Reporting to the Vice President for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer (VPHR/CHRO) with a high degree of independence, this position provides strategic advice to the
VPHR/CHRO
on a daily basis, presenting context that helps set executive priorities and ensures the timely flow of information to and from the executive office. The director serves as the operational hub of the HR department, increasing the VPHR/CHRO's availability for high-level responsibilities while independently managing projects and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide high-level administrative management to the division with a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Manage complex scheduling for the VPHR/CHRO, prioritizing meetings and events based on shifting institutional goals. Guide the HR leadership team on business continuity procedures during an emergency to ensure divisional operational resilience. Anticipate the needs of the VPHR/CHRO and independently address issues or resolve matters of significance on their behalf. Ensure that all confidential matters and time-sensitive materials are processed with the highest level of integrity. (30%) Serve as the primary interface between the VPHR/CHRO's office and university leadership, including the Cabinet and Board of Trustees. Create and edit executive-level human resources communications, briefings, and presentations for the VPHR/CHRO and HR Leadership Team members. Leverage data reporting tools to identify trends and provide actionable insights that guide executive decision-making. Conduct independent research on a variety of subjects and synthesize key messages into talking points for the
VPHR/CHRO.
(25%) Continually assess the efficiency of administrative processes and implement improvements through new methods and documentation. Adopt emerging technologies, specifically artificial intelligence tools, to enhance human resources administrative workflows. Manage equipment inventory, repairs, and custodial service requests for all human resources office spaces. (20%) Lead and participate in, alongside other human resources leaders, human resources engagement efforts, including the planning and administration of divisional events, programs, and initiatives. (15%) Oversee procurement needs on behalf of human resources. Administer human resources budget expenses and serve as an approver of HR accounts payable activities. (10%)

CONTACTS
Department:
Frequent, daily contact with all human resources staff members, including Sr and Assoc VPs, directors, and individual contributors.
University:
Frequent, daily contact with executive and cabinet university leaders; executive assistants or chiefs of staff to both executive and cabinet university leaders for scheduling meetings, events, and other items on behalf of
VPHR/CHRO.
Directly communicate with executive or university cabinet leaders on behalf of
VPHR/CHRO
for email communications, meetings that are not scheduled, or to manage event logistics directly with them or their staff. Occasional contact with HR Administrators to schedule meetings for
VPHR/CHRO.
Occasional contact with Budget Office and Procurement staff for ongoing HR financial operations. Regular contact with custodial and facilities services for maintenance and repairs of HR office spaces.
External:
Contact with outside organizations and vendor partners. Occasional contact with peer institutions and other organizations when researching, soliciting and/or providing data.
Students:
Little or no student interaction.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, OR Associate's degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible administrative experience, OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible administrative experience. Human Resources experience and/or PHR or other HR industry certification are preferred. CWRU experience in a similar or related role preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Excellent communicator and critical thinker must demonstrate sound judgement and political acumen at all times in furtherance of the university's reputation. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality of information and data that flow through the office. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks and projects daily and regularly. Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate sound decision-making. Strong collaboration skills to work with all members in central Human Resources and across the university's community. Ability to manage e-communications and serve as a peer to the HR leadership team members. Adaptability to incorporate technology, especially artificial intelligence tools, in all facets of HR administrative duties. Innovative and creative thinker to advance new methods of improving work habits and practices not only within central Human Resources, but also to enhance HR administrators' work. Ability to utilize and leverage data reporting and visualization tools to inform strategy and decision-making Understanding of business continuity planning and the ability to lead administrative responses during emergencies. Willingness to learn and utilize artificial intelligence (AI). Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. Ability to meet consistent attendance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Professional office environment involving extensive sitting and prolonged computer use. Pressures are associated with short lead times, conflicting priorities, and the complex nature of executive office functions.
