Job Description
Job Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day HR operations of a small machining and fabrication company. This role supports recruitment, employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, and workplace culture. The HR Generalist works closely with leadership and shop personnel to ensure a safe, compliant, and productive work environment while aligning HR practices with business goals.Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding- Coordinate hiring efforts for skilled trades, machinists, welders, and administrative staff
- Post job openings, screen candidates, and schedule interviews
- Manage onboarding process, including orientation and new hire documentation Employee Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues
- Promote positive employee engagement and company culture
- Assist supervisors with performance management and conflict resolution Compliance & Policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures
- Manage personnel records and ensure proper documentation Compensation & Benefits
- Administer payroll coordination (in partnership with accounting or external provider)
- Manage employee benefits programs (health insurance, PTO, retirement plans)
- Assist with compensation benchmarking and adjustments Training & Development
- Coordinate training programs, including safety and skills development
- Support certification tracking (e.g., welding certifications, safety training)
- Identify workforce development opportunities Health, Safety & Workplace Support
- Support workplace safety initiatives in coordination with operations and safety coordinator
- Assist with incident reporting and workers' compensation claims
- Promote a safe and compliant shop environment General HR Administration
- Maintain HR systems, files, and reporting
- Support leadership with HR-related planning and decision-making
- Handle additional HR duties as needed in a small business environment
Qualifications:
Education & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3-7 years of HR experience, preferably in manufacturing, machining, or fabrication environments
- Experience in a small business or standalone HR role preferred Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience with recruiting skilled labor positions
- Familiarity with safety regulations and industrial work environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Technical Skills
- Experience with HRIS systems and payroll platforms
