General Position Description
De Colores Child Development Center, LLC is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented part-time HR Assistant to support the daily human resources operations of our childcare centers.
Working in person alongside center leadership, the HR Assistant helps with hiring, onboarding, employee recordkeeping, and tracking the certifications and training hours required to keep our centers in compliance with TDFPS Minimum Standards and Texas Rising Star requirements. The ideal candidate is organized, trustworthy, discreet with confidential information, and able to work well with staff, applicants, and leadership across all three locations.
This position reports to the Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Support recruiting efforts by posting job openings, scheduling interviews, and communicating with applicants.
- Coordinate the onboarding process for new hires, including collecting and verifying required documents such as background checks, CPR/First Aid certifications, Food Handlers permits, college transcripts, CDA credentials, and pre-service training records.
- Create, organize, and maintain accurate and confidential employee personnel files in compliance with TDFPS Minimum Standards.
- Track staff certifications, permits, and renewal dates, and notify employees and leadership in advance of upcoming expirations.
- Monitor and log annual training clock hours (24-30 hours, depending on role) to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist with timekeeping, attendance records, and the preparation of payroll information for review by leadership.
- Help maintain employee records in HR and childcare management software (for example, Brightwheel and payroll systems).
- Support benefits enrollment and respond to routine employee questions about policies, schedules, and paid time off.
- Prepare HR-related correspondence, forms, and reports as requested.
- Help ensure center compliance with applicable employment laws, posting requirements, and licensing regulations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and applicant information.
- Perform other administrative and HR duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Skills and Experience - Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism. - Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and comfort learning HR, payroll, and childcare management software.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in person at the center.
Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED required; coursework or a degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- At least 1 year of administrative, office, or human resources experience preferred; childcare or education-setting experience is a plus.
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check through TDFPS.
- Proof of work eligibility must be provided.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with TDFPS Minimum Standards and childcare licensing requirements is a plus.
Schedule - Part-time, in-person
- Approximately 20-25 hours per week, Monday-Friday
- Daytime hours scheduled between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM
- No nights and no weekends
