The Associate HRBP is responsible for providing day-to-day, foundational HR support and administering essential HR processes for the Evadale mill. This position requires a dedicated, and detail-oriented individual who will be a crucial member of our Human Resources team and will interact daily with our unionized hourly workforce. This position will be provided with intentional development to help grow an early HR professional for future roles. How you will impact
Smurfit WestRock:
Maintain all electronic and paper HR records and confidential employee files in accordance with our company record retention guidelines. Work closely with other HR roles to support the talent acquisition process by coordinating and facilitating orientation for both hourly and salaried new hires. Support and execute HR initiatives focused on culture and engagement including all facets of survey administration and action planning, employee recognition including service awards, and employee and community engagement activities and events. Provide labor relations support by attending grievance and investigatory meetings for development, assisting with grievance and disciplinary procedures, documents, and tracking, and assisting with information requests under direction. Update SWTV communications, local email distribution lists, and assist in improving overall mill communications. Assist with annual benefits enrollment and education, other various HR and local initiatives, and provide support as needed for the HR department including coordinating meetings and related activities for on-site logistics. Identify and drive HR process improvements by proactively evaluating existing HR practices and methods, recommending practical and efficient enhancements, and driving to completion with HR Manager oversight Manage the department's purchasing needs Cross train with other HR roles to build functional depth and continuity, developing the capability to serve as a reliable backup and potential successor for critical HR responsibilities, while ensuring seamless support for business and workforce needs. Prioritize daily routines and be flexible to accommodate changing priorities. Provide excellent customer service to employees, addressing their HR-related inquiries and concerns in a prompt manner. Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve Smurfit Westrock goals. Other duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor's degree in HR, Organizational Psychology, or related field. Experience or degree in HR from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Human Resources Certification preferred:
PHR, or
SHRM-CP 0 - 2
years HR experience Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, etc.) Experience with employee databases, HRIS and/or learning management systems is preferred (PeopleSoft, Avature, Workforce Software) Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor and proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills Must be flexible to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities. Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, safety, and professionalism. Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple, detailed tasks.
