Position Summary The Human Resources Technician provides administrative and technical support to the Human Resources Department, with primary responsibilities in employee leave administration, talent acquisition support, and general HR operations. Under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources, the Human Resources Technician assists with the coordination and processing of employee leave requests, recruitment activities, onboarding, personnel records management, and other human resources functions. This position serves as a resource to employees and applicants by providing accurate information regarding HR processes, leave programs, and employment procedures. The Human Resources Technician maintains confidential records, ensures timely and accurate data entry, and supports the efficient operation of the Human Resources Department in a fast-paced educational environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leave Administration Process and track employee leave requests, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, Workers' Compensation, parental leave, short-term disability, long-term disability, and other applicable leave programs. Review leave documentation for completeness and coordinate required communications with employees, supervisors, payroll, and benefit providers. Maintain accurate and confidential leave records and ensure timely processing of required forms and notices. Assist employees and supervisors with understanding leave procedures, timelines, documentation requirements, and return-to-work processes. Monitor leave status and maintain accurate records of leave balances and usage. Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local leave laws, regulations, and organizational policies. Talent Acquisition and Onboarding Post job vacancies and assist with recruitment activities. Review applications for minimum qualifications and coordinate candidate communications. Schedule interviews, coordinate interview logistics, obtain references, and manage prescreening process, prompts and prompt rubrics, and prepare hiring materials. Assist with new hire onboarding, orientation, and employment documentation as needed. Support recruitment and onboarding activities for international candidates as assigned. Efficiently maintain recruitment records and applicant tracking systems. Human Resources Operations Maintain personnel files and employee records in accordance with established procedures and confidentiality requirements. Perform HR data entry, record maintenance, audits, and reporting functions. Prepare routine correspondence, forms, reports, and HR communications. Assist with employee transactions including new hires, transfers, status changes, and separations. Update and maintain HR forms, templates, and digital resources. Provide professional customer service to employees, applicants, and the public. Assist with HR projects, compliance activities, and special assignments. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Human Resources. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of federal and state leave laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, and related leave programs. Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and employment processes. Understanding of recruitment, onboarding, and personnel administration procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to shift focus seamlessly among competing responsibilities. Ability to provide excellent customer service and build positive working relationships with employees, applicants, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a multicultural and diverse educational environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, HRIS systems, databases, and related technology. Education and Experience Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative or human resources experience required. Experience administering employee leave programs and applying leave-related laws and regulations required. Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, or personnel administration preferred. Experience in a school, public sector, or nonprofit environment preferred. HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) is desirable but not required.
